  • Gomer will not let a special council from Washington go on base.

Gomer gets a message from a Liutenant Peterson for Sgt.Carter about wanting his platoon to be Military Police. Gomer writes down the message, then has trouble reading his own writing, as he finally relays the message to Sgt. Carter. Sgt. Carter then tries to find the easiest street for Gomer to watch. A couple of service men tell Gomer to do such things as putting his arm band upside down, so people can read it when he raises his arm, and putting his gun belt down to his waist so he can draw easier, etc. Sgt. Carter gets chewed out, and has to find something else for Gomer to do. He determines the back gate would be the easiest assignment, so he sends Gomer there. He tells Gomer no one gets through without an I.D. A Special Council from Washington comes to the gate, and does not have I.D. He becomes angry with Gomer, who rambles on about how it's nothing personal and how the man has a big, friendly face. The man, Mr.Horton, walks through the gate, and Gomer escorts him to jail. Funny scene as Gomer describes to Sgt. Carter, who is on the phone trying to find out where Mr. Horton is, the man he brought in, as Sgt. Carter realizes it is Mr.Horton! Sgt. Carter is not happy with Gomer. Colonel Gray calls Gomer to his office, with Mr. Horton there. He tells Gomer he did everything right. That sets up the best scene, the last scene. Gomer tells Sgt. Carter what the Colonel said, and Sgt. Carter is happy. Then he reads the message from Colonel Gray that Gomer wrote down. Since Sgt. Carter did not approve Gomer's handling of the situation with Mr. Horton, Sgt. Carter will not go on liberty, and instead have to be on guard duty! I thought this was a good episode.moreless
