  • Gomer becomes attached to an attack dog.

Gomer volenteers to train an attack dog for a Marine exercise. He puts up his hand and waves it, as Sgt. Carter ignores him, then finally agrees to let Gomer train the dog. Funny scene as Gomer rambles on about how he has had 25 dogs, and tells about some of them. Gomer beat out a guy named Johnson, who had a rough theory on how to handle dogs, to train the dog. Sgt. Carter points out he normally would not pick Gomer, but likes Gomer's kinder approach to dogs. The dog had been named "Killer". Gomer gives the dog another name. Gomer talks to the dog, encouraging the dog. Gomer brings out the gentle side of the dog, as the dog does such things as lick Sgt. Carter's face, and lay down and yawn. The dog won't attack the "enemy" during the exercise, and the Officer suggests it be taken to the dog pound. Colonel Gray praises Gomer for uncovering the gentler side of the dog now instead of the enemy later, and suggests Gomer give the dog to another Colonel as a pet. This episode does not go for a lot of laughs. It is more focused on showing Gomer's wonderful kindness, as it shines through in this episode.
