  • Gomer's good nature gets him in a situation...again

Gomer comes across a broken down vehicle and meets a family traveling cross country to start a new life in Oregon. Down on their luck, Gomer offers to help. They have no place to stay, so Gomer moves them into a shack which just happens to be the target of a war games exercise. Gomer is assigned the Bazooka in said war games and is surprised when told to fire upon the house in which the family is shacked. Needless to say, Gomer tries to balance the situation and talk the family out while not revealing what he did to Carter. The scene where Gomer blows up the vehicle he offered to fix with the Bazooka is noteworthy. Not one of the better episodes, but enjoyable nonetheless.
  • Gomer tries to help out a family needing a place to stay, with unexpected consequences.

A family is stranded as their truck stalls. Gomer attempts to help them by letting them stay at an abonened shack. He assures the family it is O.K. to stay there, not knowing there will be a Marine excersise for target practice. Also, Gomer is suppose to be the one to hit the shack! Good scene as it focused on the target on top of the shack. Gomer misses the shack a couple of times. The second miss, he hits the family truck, and Harper shoots his rifle at the Marines, not knowing what is going on, other than his family is being attacked. Colonel Gray has brought the press along for the Marine exercise, and one of the press members gets a hole in his hat from a rifle shot. All is good at the end, as the Marines give a jeep to transport the family to their destination. I rate this a good episode. It is a classic good natured Gomer tries to help episode that causes problems, but all turns out fine in the end.
