  • Though there have doubtless been the classic, "better" episodes of Good Eats, this one still has the formula right for a good episode: intriguing info, great recipes, and good ol' Alton humour.moreless

This episode is an outstanding example, having the elements that are the very reasons for my obsession with the show. Besides alluring and simple recipes for great food, as always, this was an episode that provided a perfect example of Good Eat's wonderful feature of providing in-depth science and history (with a playful air, of course) behind the episode's main, based food and the respective recipes. And, of course, food history and the science behind foods have never been more fun to learn, notwithstanding that they're about great foods, but simply because A.B. is holding that pointer, or explaining that diagram, or acting in that skit - he simply makes things easier and more fun to swallow. Besides, Alton's humour and funny-man side, whoch both seem to have matured beautifully over the years, are also cleverly portrayed here, especially with the cake-in-milk bit at first, a cleverly devised yet not overdone bit of comic relief - yet another reason to love the show and this episode.moreless

  • NOTES (0)

    • When Alton says Tres Leche Cake should be placed in the cooler after frosting, he says the phrase with a high pitched, excitable voice modeled after Colonel Klink, the prison camp commandant in the sitcom Hogan's Heroes, who would often sentence prisoners to the cooler.
