Alton takes to the sea with Captain Squint to search for a local legend of a toe-eating scallop.

Recipes featured in this episode: - Seared Scallops - Scallops on the Half Shell - Scallop Mousse
  • Easily the best episode that I\\\'ve seen thus far. It kept me interested, not only because of the recipe instructions, but the secondary story involved. The guy who plays \\\"Captain Squint\\\" (who makes frequent guest appearances) is hilarious.moreless

Easily the best episode that I\\\'ve seen thus far. It kept me interested, not only because of the recipe instructions, but the secondary story involved. The guy who plays \\\"Captain Squint\\\" (who makes frequent guest appearances) is hilarious.

The combination of the always-reliable science-backed cooking instructions and above-average acting job performed by both stars in the episode make this one of the most delightful experiences that I\\\'ve had watching my favorite series on FoodTV.

The only thing that would have made this particular episode, and the series in general better is if Alton Brown were an attractive woman, but I guess we can\\\'t win them all =)

I especially love the fact that this episode has at the end, something which I love and appears too far and few between in episodes of Good Eats, that being outtakes which serve to not only add humor but to further humanize Mr. Brown, a man that I\\\'m sure we all find funny, easily based on the terrific dialog that he imbues in every episode.moreless

    • Alton Brown: I don't believe this - a HOUSEBOAT? Captain Squint: Ehh, don't diss my ride, ya galley-dog! She runs as smooth as the rear end of a porpoise! Now, what's all that stuff for, then? Alton Brown: Diving gear; thought I might do a bit of scalloping. Captain Squint: You're going? In the water? Alton Brown: That is the best place to find the scallops, Captain... Captain Squint: You go in the water... Scallop's in the water... Our scallop...

    • Captain Squint: I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for your meddling! This is an obvious reference to the illustrious Scooby Doo and how the villian at the end always makes a similar statement.

    • Jaws This episode is chock full of references to the Jaws movies. - The town hall meeting in Spamity Island, ME - Captain Squint running his fingers across the chalkboard and saying "I'll catch him, but it ain't gonna be easy." and other Jaws-based quotes - The attack from a sea creature in general - Randomly-placed Jaws signature music; You know the tune...
