AIRED:
Talented young television producer Jake Silver comes to Miami to visit his grandmother Claire under the guise of a job interview to produce the country's lowest-rated morning show at a local TV station, but he ends up taking the job he never sought after meeting the show's captivating hairstylist, Dylan Messinger. As Jake attempts to transform the show into a winner, he inherits an eclectic ensemble of employees, including an arrogant host, Gavin Stone; a self-centered co-host, Lucia Rojas-Klein; a highly insecure station manager, Frank Alfano, and his lazy and neurotic assistant, Penny; and a volatile nun, Sister Brenda, the show's weather reporter.moreless

      • Jake: Yeah, well some girl named Penny was supposed to pick me up at the airport.
Girl: Oh, Penny. Well there's your problem. She's completely unreliable. I mean, she's hot, but all she does is scarf the free food, hang around the office and annoy people.
Jake: Well there's one in every office.
        Girl: Yeah.
        Jake: I'm Jake Silver.
        Girl: I'm Penny!

      • Jake: When you were younger, and fat, what was that name the kids used to call you?
        Gavin: Fat kid.
Jake: Oh. Kids are so original.

      • Frank: God forgives, Brenda.
Brenda: Blow it out your a**, Frank!

    • NOTES (4)

      • The character of Lucia Rojas-Klein was named Lucia Rojas-Miller in the original pilot. Only after running the show by an audience was the last name changed to Rojas-Klein (or "Little Red").

      • Stephon Fuller is credited as 'stage manager' in this episode, but in later episodes is referred to as 'Robby' in the credits.

      • When this episode first reran, Lucia (Tessie Santiago)'s entire scene was cut.

      • Penny and Gavin were originally portrayed by different actors when the pilot was originally shot (you could see this in an early fall preview NBC showed during the summer of 2002). Scenes with these sacked actors were refilmed.
