  • So Sad That It Is A Harbinger of Things To Come

In light of what's happening with our country today, watching this episode blew my mind. The family is concerned with their loss of privacy after they are investigated simply because Michael wrote to the Cuban government as part of a school project. Towards the end when FL tells James everything is OK, he says that I still have the feeling that somewhere my name is in a file. The government agents are heavy handed & it comes to the Evans' knowledge that the FBI has contacted their jobs and neighbors, which leaves them with an unease about the investigative tactics that were not revealed. Who knew that what we saw in that episode would someday be a drop in the proverbial bucket.moreless
  • The Investigation is a prime example of why this series was so ahead of it's time and under-appreciated.

The writing for this and many of the episodes for Good Times is what made it such an outstanding series and a fine family, situation comedy. The show, with episodes like this, tackled many issues of the day and I am so glad TV Land and Nick at Nite has included it as one of their staples. I think in hindsight many will see how under-appreciated and under-rewarded this show was, but we can still enjoy the writing of this urban, familial world Norman Lear created that made it such a top ratings grabber in it's prime. This episode was one of the best for the series.moreless
