      • J.J: I can see the headlines now: "Gorgeous Ghetto Girl Becomes Happy Haram Honey!"

      • (Things begin to heat up after Thelma tells Florida she's moving in with Ibe)
        [knock at the door]

J.J: Wellllll. Ibe. No use in having a fish fry without the fish. Come on in, brotha.

      • (Florida comes home in a rotten mood)
J.J: Well if you need anything Ma, just let us know.
Florida: Well, you can start by getting me a pair of new feet.
Michael: Hey, I'll check the Sears catalog! [laughs]
(Florida, unimpressed, gives Michael a dirty look)

Michael: Just a little humor, Ma.
        Florida: Very little.

      • (J.J., showing little knowledge of the African eating customs)
J.J.: Wait a minute. Now I know this one for sure. This is a drink that is a West African tradition - not from East Africa, but West Africa. It's called "mango cream soda.
Ibe: No. It's WATER, to wash your hands before you eat the food.

      • (Thelma to Florida, after Florida expresses opposition to Thelma and Ibe living together)
Thelma: Ma, nobody buys a pair of shoes without trying them on.
Florida: And nobody's gonna buy used shoes either.

      • Thelma: Ibe and I are in love and we're gonna live together.
Florida: Is that what the beating around the bush was for?
Thelma: You mean you aren't mad?
        Florida: No.
Michael: Not even a teeny bit?
        Florida: No.
J.J.: You mean you're gonna let her move in with Ibe?
        Florida: Hell no.

      • Thelma: Well you see, I got this apartment.
Florida: Apartment? How are you gonna take care of an apartment when you don't have a job to pay the rent?
J.J.: Well see Ma, she won't have to pay any rent. She gonna be what we call 'live-in' help. She gonna be washing, cooking, cleaning, et cetera.
        Michael: Especially...'et cetera'.

      • (After telling JJ and Michael that she's moving in with Ibe)
Thelma: Well he asked me to move in with him and I said 'Yes'.
J.J.: Well I've heard of Foreign Aid, but this is ridiculous.
