AIRED:
After Yvonne's suspicions are aroused by Gary once again mysteriously heading off to far locations, Yvonne follows him and accidentally sees him in the act of vanishing into thin air as he steps through the time portal. In the past, Gary prevents an assassination attempt on future Prime Minister Clement Attlee, which leads to the time portal closing permanently, giving him no choice but to remain in the 1940s. He paints a final message to Ron and Yvonne on the same Mayfair flat wall from which Ron will one day strip old wallpaper, to discover the words. In an eerie scene, the words appear on the wall in the present as Gary scribbles them there in 1945.moreless

  • Anti-climax.

    6.6
At the VE-celebrations Gary mentions that it is all a bit of an anti-climax for him. That could describe this episode as well. Gary gets stranded in 1945, not of his own choice, and that's the problem. I didn't need the entire time portal element to get an explanation, but to solve the dilemma of the central character, who struggles with two identities, by chance, is a bit of a let-down. In a previous episode, Just in Time, Gary was forced to make a decision, but then it turned out to be a misunderstanding. That would have been a good final episode. Now it ended all of a sudden, with a sentimental coda.moreless
  • The last episode spoilt the whole programme for me, why did they have to finish it with Gary in only one timezone? Gary could have told both women that he was a time traveller, or something! Great series ruined by the last episode!moreless

    3.2
Gary realises that he is stuck in 1945, and writes a message to Ron, because he knows Ron is redcorating the house Gary owns in 1945 saying he is stuck in 1945, and Ron tells Yvonne that Gary is a time-traveller! The show ends with Yvonne staring into the gates in the present day and Gary staring into them in 1945 as the war is coming to an end!
