    • Photographer: (to Laurel talking about Blair) Who choose this girl?
      Laurel: Eleanor. Why?
Photographer: She's so prim and stiff. Like a bookcase. It's unnatural.
Laurel: Yeah, but she looks stunning in the clothes, don't you agree?
Photographer: Mm-hmm. To my eye, like a goddess. To this eye (camera), blergh. Like a statue.

    • Dan: I don't know about Serena, Dad. I can't tell if she's worth it.
      Rufus: What do you mean?
Dan: Well, she's best friends with this girl, Blair Waldorf. Who is basically everything I hate about the Upper East Side distilled into one 95-pound, doe-eyed, bon mots tossing, label-whoring package of girly evil.
Rufus: (smiles) No one's that bad.
Dan: She is. I would barely be exaggerating if I told you Medusa wants her withering glare back.
Rufus: Well, if there is anything I have learnt is that usually there is something beneath the surface with people like that... that make them act like they do.

    • Serena: Britney with the umbrella!...Posh Spice in America!

    • Blair: (about the shop) It's called Nolita, not no showers!

    • Chuck: (to Carter) You are the guy who gave us our first joint; sneaked us into our first club. And you are going to tell me the life of a you tube's film-maker is better than this? (Pause) You invented the Lost weekend.
Nate: Hey, he gave up parties so he could travel the world.
Carter: Exactly, the real world. The only thing that matters is who you are, not what you own.
Chuck: As much as I love the speech about not leading material things from a guy who has that much product in this area. This party is about excess, not exposition. Stop talking, start partying. (grabs two girls) Here is something which doesn't need material. (touching the girl's dresses) In fact is about to come off. (to Nate) Come with me.
Nate: I think I'll hang out here for a bit.
      Chuck: (not pleased) Fine.

    • Carter: (about playing basketball) Maybe if your Daddy bought you a basketball team instead of a hotel you'd have some skills, uh.
Chuck: Look, this is the Lost Weekend for Juniors, not Seniors citizens. Go jump into a volcano.

    • Gossip Girl: Hey Upper East Siders, there's nothing Gossip Girl likes more than a surprise. And we hear Blair Waldorf got a two-for-one special. Her mom, Eleanor, who has just returned from Paris, and Serena van der Woodsen. Brunch buddies.

    • Eleanor: (to Blair who is about to eat a croissant) Before you tuck into that, you might find a low-fat yogurt more appealing.

    • Gossip Girl: Doesn't Chuck know that a party isn't a party until someone crashes?

    • Blair: Normally I wouldn't be this close to you without a tetanus shot.
Dan: My mom kind of left us a couple of months ago. Only my... my dad and my sister don't really see that, 'cause she told us she had to go away for the summer to, uh... to follow her dreams and be an artist. But it's not summer anymore and she's still up there. And that's all she seems to care about right now. Every time I go to see her, I tell myself this time I'm going to tell her what I think. This time I'm going to look her in the eye, and say... either come home or leave for good. And so there I was, just the other day; I was sitting across the table from her, I looked her straight in the eye and I didn't say anything.
      Blair: Why not?
Dan: I don't know. But I wish I had. 'Cause, even if it didn't change anything, she'd know how I felt.

    • Gossip Girl: Is that a smile we see on B's lips? The spotlight is on her, for once, and S actually helped her get it. I guess miracles can happen.

    • Blair: What are you doing here? (referring to Dan) Do I smell pork... and cheese? (to Serena) Ok, well when you're done with your charity work why don't you come find me.

    • Gossip Girl: Serena and Blair may have plans for the day, but Nate and Chuck are fully booked for the weekend. If they survive it.

    • (About Carter Baizen)
Chuck: He's not your friend. He can't be trusted.
Nate: And why is that? 'Cause he doesn't believe what you believe?

    • Chuck: That dream of yours... What is it really? 'Cause I hear you talk about how you don't want to go to Dartmouth, how you don't want to follow in your father's footsteps. But what exactly do you want?
Nate: All I know is that it's not this.
Chuck: Well, you had better discover what it is before you throw everything away trying to find it.

    • Chuck: Found it ( holding up a watch), P.J.
Nate: Can't you just call it a watch?
Chuck: If it costs more then 10 grand it deserves a proper name.

    • Gossip Girl: The rules for a model the day of a photo shoot are similar to those of the patients pre-surgery. No food, nor drink 12 hours prior, wear comfortable clothing and make sure your affairs are in order. You never know what can go wrong in a flash.

    • Nate: I haven't seen him since he was a senior and we were in eighth grade. Looks intense.
Chuck: Are you high? He looks like Matthew McConaughey between movies. That guy's a loser.

    • Chuck: (to Nate) Let's go. You can think about your boyfriend inside.

    • Chuck: (to Nate) The real world. Everyone out there wants to be us.

    • Blair: (to Serena's answering machine) Maybe we should crash the shoot, anyway. See who they replaced me with. Make fun of that skinny b!tch.

    • Serena: How was the movie? Did I miss something amazing?
      Dan: Even without the movie.
      Serena: (laughs) Don't be cocky!

    • Eleanor: Now, get some sleep. And I will see you in the morning. We're going to the photo shoot together.
(Eleanor tucks in Blair and caresses her hair)
Blair: You haven't done this since I was little.
Eleanor: You haven't been in bed by ten since you were little.

    • Rufus: I dated a girl like Serena, once. Actually a lot like Serena. And girls like that might be challenging. That's true. And they're complicated, and enigmatic. And usually worth it. And the only way you know for sure is to jump it with both feet.
      Dan: What happened with you?
Rufus: I swam for a while. 'Till I drowned.
Dan: Oh. Well, thanks dad. That's a great story.

    • Dan: Isn't that the girl who told the entire school and, oh, several colleges, that you had a drug problem?
Serena: Yeah. But, you know, Blair can be a little... Blair. (they chuckle) We are actually trying to work things out. Today is our first day hanging out together. Alone.
      Dan: Uh uh.
Serena: Uh uh. (laughs) So I should probably get back.
      Dan: Yeah, sure.
Serena: But call me sometime. So we can get together and do that thing you didn't ask me to do.

    • Gossip Girl: This just in, S and B committing a crime of fashion. Who doesn't love a five finger discount, especially if one of those fingers is the middle one... Everyone knows you can't choose your family but you can choose you friends. And in a world ruled by bloodlines and bank accounts, it pays to have a pal. As much as a BFF can make you go WTF, there's no denying we'd all be a little less rich without them. And Serena and Blair? They do best things better than anyone. No, that's not a tear in my eye, it's just allergies. Without you, I'm nothing. Gossip Girl.

    • Serena: I'm sorry you were right.
      Blair: I know.
Serena: When I got that call, I should have known you had nothing to do with it. I know I should have never pushed you to do this whole thing in the first place.
Blair: Actually I'm glad you pushed me. It ended up being a very important day for me. I just thought it was going to be more fun.
Serena: I know, me too. (they hug)

    • Blair: Did you choose Serena over me? (puse) You could've picked a stranger. You didn't have to choose my best friend. Did you think I wouldn't find out?
Eleanor: I was going to tell you tonight. At dinner. It was no right decision. Uh, there... there wasn't any time. I know you can understand all this. It was mishandled; the whole thing, from top to bottom.
Blair: Do you actually want me to agree with you?
Eleanor: Bendel's going to legitimize this company. It'd take everything to the next level. You know how I hard I've worked for that. You have always been my biggest supporter. My biggest fan.
      Blair: I'm your daughter.
Eleanor: And as my daughter I need you would forgive me. In time. But if my company had lost this deal because of you, I'd never forgive myself.
Blair: I hope you never do.
Gossip Girl: You didn't hear it from us, but in every girl's life there comes a moment when she realizes that her mother just might be more messed up than she is.

    • (About the painting)
Rufus: So, what did you think about it?
Lily: I thought. (pause) It was extraordinary.

    • (Lily shows up at Rufus' art gallery)
      Lily: How could you?
(Rufus can't see her, because he is turned)
Rufus: Actually, I like to see you.
Lily: This is no joke, Humphrey.
Rufus: (noticing she's holding the sold painting) What are you doing with that?
Lily: The question is what were you doing selling it to me!
      Rufus: You... You're Betsy's client.
Lily: Oh. And you didn't know?
Rufus: I'm just surprised you hired someone with taste.
Lily: Oh. Well, I'm equally as shocked because when she said she found something amazing in Brooklyn, your gallery never entered my mind!
Rufus: You actually recognize art to remember the place.
Lily: What I recognize is the fact that your wife would not want this hanging in my house.
Rufus: Alison is a professional artist. She doesn't do background check on prospective buyers. And neither do I. Besides, it has been almost twenty years.
Lily: And you still don't know what I meant.
Rufus: (mocking) And you don't know. At all.
      (Pause)
      Lily: Your wife despises me.
Rufus: (uneasy) I wouldn't... say that.
Lily: Well, she did. She may have been wearing slip dresses and Doc Martens at that time. But she definitely meant it.
Rufus: She is not like you. She doesn't hold on that stuff.
Lily: Why don't you call and ask her? Or are you still giving her her space?

    • Serena: (seeing Dan walking up to her with a plate) You're still here?
Dan: Yeah, well, I thought I couldn't leave without bringing you something from craft service. Um, and, uh, and telling you that I'm sorry I judged you.
Serena: Well, I'm sorry I gave you reason to. (Dan smiles a little)
Hey, how about you ask me out again?
Dan: How about you actually show up?
Serena: (smiles) Okay. No drama. No disruptions. I promise.
Dan: You promise? Oh, no! That means it's never gonna happen now.
Serena: Aah! Okay, quick. I take it back. I unpromise.
      Dan: Friday. 8:00.
Blair: (walking up to them) I think we can agree to those terms...but you can't wear those shoes. Mmm, or that hair.
      Serena: Blair.
      Dan: (laughs) Oh.
      Serena: Okay, see you then.
Blair: Eww. (turns away as Serena kisses Dan on the cheek and hugs him)
Dan: All right. (smiles and walks away)

    • Blair: Serena send you here to talk to me?
Dan: No, believe it or not, I actually came here myself.
Blair: (sighs) Normally, I wouldn't be this close to you without a tetanus shot.

    • Gossip Girl: Spotted -- Lonely Boy's rude awakening. Upper East Side Queens aren't born at the top. They climb their way up in heels, no matter who they have to tread on to do it.

    • Serena: Blair, wait. Why are you so mad?
Blair: Why am I mad? You mean, why aren't I furious?! I can't believe for one second I thought that it would be different this time.
Serena: You thought what would be different?
Blair: You couldn't deal with the spotlight shining on me for once, could you?
Serena: What are you talking about? I was told that we were doing this together. What, did you not get my message?
Blair: What about this morning then? When you glanced at the call sheet, did you see my name on it? When I wasn't in hair and make-up, didn't that seem strange? When the dressing room only had your name on it, what, did you think they just forgot?
Serena: I was told that you were running late, and they asked me to do some test shots first. Blair, they told me you wanted me here.
      Blair: And you believed them?
Serena: Look, Blair, I encouraged you to do this. Why would I try to steal something from you that I pushed you to do?
Blair: Because you take everything from me! Nate, my mom!
      Serena: Blair!
Blair: You can't even help it. It's who you are. I just thought that maybe this time it would be different. I should have known I'd be wrong.

    • Blair: (Answering Serena's cellphone) Who dare interrupt the van der Woodsen as she teaches?!
Dan: Dan...Humphrey (as Blair and Serena argue about the phone in the background)
Blair: Sorry, the number you dialed is no longer is service.
Serena: Stop it, who is it?
Blair: I'm doing you a favor.
Dan: Look I can hear you. Can I just please talk to Serena?
Blair: Apparently you can, cabbage patch.

    • Chuck: (to his guests) Let me remind you of the rules. As of this moment there is no outside world that I do not show you. You eat what I provide, practice what I preach. Until I say so, the only girls you talk to are the ones I've paid for.
