    • Continuity: In this episode, Dan gives Bart a story called 5.19.91. It's a story about Chuck and his mother, and it was written in season 2 episode 5.

    • While writing a story for a magazine on Bart, Dan finds out that in 1987, Bart bought a building to convert to condos. The market crashed and he couldn't raise the funds to complete it. The building purposely burned down, and he collected the insurance money. When Dan asks Bart about it, he says it's true and someone died in the fire. Before he can say any thing else, Chuck tells Bart that Dan is using him to write a story for a magazine. Chuck convinces Dan not to publish the story.

      This is a play on the phrase every dog has its day, and the phrase means that every person will have a period of power. This is also a line from Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet.

    • Blair (to Serena, about Cyrus): I was expecting Cary Grant, and I got Danny DeVito.

      Cary Grant is a British actor and Danny DeVito is an American actor.

    • Aaron (to Serena about her practiced poses): Okay, Zoolander.

      Zoolander is a 2001 movie starring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Christine Taylor. The movie is about a fashion model who is brainwashed into killing the Malaysian Prime Minister.

    • Dan (about Bart's arson activities): It was just like in All The President's Men.

      All The President's Men is a nonfiction 1974 book by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, tow of the journalists investigating the first Watergate break-in and ensuing scandal for The Washington Post. The movie version came out in 1976, and it stars Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman.

    • But this tree does not grow in Brooklyn

      Allusion to the novel "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith, first published in 1943, which was adapted to a film by Elia Kazan in 1945, a musical by George Abott in 1951 and a television series in the early 70s.

    • Poor little orphan Jenny, looks like she needs a Daddy Warbucks.

      This is an allusion to the movies and play of Annie, where the main character is a young orphaned girl and the man who adopts her is Daddy Warbucks. Originally, Little Orphan Annie was a comic strip made for The Chicago Tribune.

    • Look's like someone's Barefoot in the Park.

      Barefoot in the Park is a 1967 movie starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.
