French Island Barge
AIRED:
More resourceful and intrepid self-builders transform their dream designs into practical living space as the seventh series of the Australian architecture show hosted by Peter Maddison continues. Using his own machinery, the assistance of family and neighbours, and his skills as an industrial designer, Mike plans to build a large, spotted gum-clad home on French Island, Victoria. Using his own machinery, the assistance of family and neighbours, and his skills as an industrial designer, Mike plans to build a large, spotted gum-clad home on French Island, Victoria (a low-key National Park island that has more koalas than people). He intends to prepare the huge, exposed timber trusses in his shed and create beautifully finished internal walls of dry stacked stone, reminiscent of a lofty American ranch-style cabin. He must transport materials to the site in his truck, bringing them from the mainland via a commuter barge. Adding to these challenges is the fact that he's doing it all off grid. This will be a hand-hewn house built from Mike's love for this most unusual location.moreless
