Episode Summary

Graceville Container House
Peter Maddison presents season five of the Australian architecture show that follows intrepid individuals as they try to design and construct the home of their dreams. What do you do when a devastating flood damages your riverside abode and washes its contents away? If you're builder Todd Miller and his wife Diana, an artist, you embark on the boldest and cheapest construction with your own hands, in the quickest possible time. This feisty and resourceful couple decide to trial a whole new way of building, starting with 31 steel shipping containers that Todd plans to crane into their suburban block, then somehow weld into a flood-proof family home. Todd thinks it can be done in 16 weeks, but even with his skills and meticulous planning, this ambitious project is completely untried. Massive delivery trucks bring their Brisbane neighbourhood to a standstill as Todd directs each container to its final resting place. He's a man on a mission as the first 10 containers, the entire first storey, arrive on site and are placed in just four hours. Ironically, the one thing that drove Todd to take on the container house concept in the first place becomes his biggest adversary. Fierce weather threatens progress as a string of downpours turns the site to sludge, destroys materials and drenches belongings. But the biggest hit comes in the form of a storm that almost leaves Todd undone, along with the entire build. With no permanent home, two young children, and a business on hold, he's in way over his head as he struggles to make this project float.moreless
