Tallebudgera Valley Queenslander
AIRED:
More resourceful and intrepid self-builders transform their dream designs into practical living space as the seventh series of the Australian architecture show hosted by Peter Maddison continues. Young Queensland couple Doug and Yvette have lived in a shed on their idyllic 10-acre property in the Gold Coast hinterland for the last two years. Originally, they planned to build an architect-designed house from scratch, but the costs were too high. Not discouraged, they sought an alternative. On a whim they bought a discarded 100-year-old Queenslander home that they plan to move to their plot - a journey that will cover 140km with the old house split into pieces, precariously carried on separate trucks. Negotiating the winding, lush hinterland is a logistical challenge, but they're determined to make it work. The house will be lifted off the ground and have a whole new level constructed underneath, along with a large contemporary pavilion that will be joined to the building to make an open-plan living area.moreless
