I like to think of this sitcom as the anti-'Wings,' in that it was an ensemble comedy in a quirky town. Since the two shows were on the same network, it was hardly a matter of competition. Still, they were miles apart. The difference is that 'Wings' was funny.

Everything 'Grand' could do wrong, it did. Boring scripts, dry, lifeless acting, plot devices cliched and inert even by run-of-the-mill half-hour show standards, even crummy music-- you name it, they messed it up. There was never anything much to make you care about these people. The cast had its share of accomplished performers, too: they really should have done a lot better. 'Grand' never made it to its second year. We can all be grateful for that.moreless
