The First Grape In Space

Aired Saturday 10:30 AM Mar 30, 1976 on ABC

  • Trivia

    • Two years later, in 1978, Grape Ape would return to the Moon's surface in the final episode of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics. He competed in a foot race on the Moon, and won first place, but tied with the other two competitors - the first time something like that happened on the show.

    • At the end of the episode, both Beegle Beagle and Grape are shown as being able to breath in outer space.

    • Beegle Beagle spells his name with two Bees and two Eagles.

    • We learn that Grape always gets stuck when trying to figure out how much 8 + 8 is.

    • The movie Beegle Beagle and Grape Ape were watching at the beginning of this episode was called "Space Race".

    • Beegle Beagle mentions that Grape is under 12. It is not clear whether this is true or he only said that to get a discount for a movie ticket.

  • Allusions

    • Beegle Beagle: We'll go straight to the Moon without passing "Go"!

This is an allusion to the board game Monopoly, where players are sometimes required to go "straight to jail, without passing "Go" and collecting 200$".

    • Scientist: I never had this problem with Neil Armstrong.

Neil Alden Armstrong (August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012) was a famous astronaut, and the first person to set foot on the Moon.
