Show Summary

Great Cars Collection from PBS profiles some of the most exotic automobiles in the world. Each episode includes archival footage of the inventors, financiers and history of each car. The impact of these automobiles on society, culture and our lives is also discussed. Included is rare footage of the great minds behind these cars - Enzo Ferrari, James Dean, Carroll Shelby and others. The first episode reveals the connection between World War II soldiers returning from Europe and America's mechanical sweetheart, the Corvette. The inexpensive, sporty Mustang is discussed in the second episode along with the Cobra, the automobile that frightened the racing elite, and the GT-40, America's secret weapon against Ferrari. The third episode spotlights the enviable and much desired Porsche. Other episodes feature Mercedes-Benz - the first cars powered by internal combustion, the stylish and fast BMW, the formidable race machine of Ferrari and the lightweight and powerful Alfa Romeo.
