  • A brilliant young accountant employed by a huge firm is in line for a lucrative promotion - but will his vulgarian wife hold him back by misbehaving at an important dinner party?

What this is doing in a series called "Great Mysteries" is anyone's guess, but, taken as a sharp comedy of (bad) manners, it's highly enjoyable. Anton Rodgers is the brilliant accountant who must invite his bosses (and their dragon wives) to a dinner party as a sort of test - to see if he can handle the social aspects of his job as well as he handles the money. Joan Collins is his hapless, patronised wife, who, in a dreadful evening, wears the wrong clothes, messes up the food, insults the guests (unintentionally), gets tipsy on too few drinks and even makes a pass at the embarrassed chairman of the board. But things are not at all what they seem, and she's really a far shrewder creature than these condescending dinner guests imagine. There is little mystery and no horror, but the surprise twist at the end is quite delicious.
