I adore Bob Fosse - I think he's the bee's knees! With his complete feature directing output of Sweet Charity, All That Jazz, Lenny, Star 80 and Cabaret, he has, along with Terrence Malick, the best average of any film director in history, batting at least .800! And his output was condensed into such a shorter period of time - not even 20 years. His stage and television choreographic output was as prolific, and spanned an even greater period of time.
This production was an anthology of his choreography, all of which was memorable - perhaps too much so. This many numbers, none of them presented in their original context, becomes overwhelming. I wouldn't have thought so, but there can be too much of a good thing, certainly when it comes to Fosse choreography. I think the best way to visit this material is via DVD so that you can break it up into several viewings, rather than just the straight-forward experience the Broadway show offered.moreless
