  • Elton John at the Royal Opera House
    On the occasion of the creation of the Elton John Scholarship Fund at the Royal Academy of Music, Elton John performs some of his greatest hits with a 90-piece orchestra, a five-piece electric band, and a choir of Royal Academy students.   • Duetto: The Concert at the Roman Colosseum
    Young up-and-coming operatic tenors, Marcelo Álvarez, from Córdoba, Argentina, and Salvatore Licitra, from Sicily, Italy, perform an outdoor concert in front of the Roman Coliseum accompanied by the Orchestra Roma Sinfonietta, conducted by Eugene Kohn.

    American soprano Renee Fleming and Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel perform the best of Broadway show tunes at the Faenol Festival in north Wales. The annual three-day festival, founded by Bryn Terfel, presents works from a different musical genre each evening -- opera, musical theater, and contemporary Welsh music.

  • Dance in America: Born to Be Wild
    This performance documentary follows four male ballet dancers, each from a different country, as they rehearse a work choreographed especially for them. They perform the piece at the end of the program.
  • From Vienna: The New Year's Celebration (2003)
    Great Performances continues the tradition of presenting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in its New Years Day concert. Strauss waltzes are featured, including "By the Beautiful Blue Danube" and "Radetzky March." The Vienna State Opera Ballet also performs.
  • `The Merry Widow' from the San Francisco Opera
    Franz Lehár's opera with new dialogue from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein bring us a story of elegant ladies and courtly gentlemen in turn-of-the-century Paris.

  • Making `The Misfits'
    Stunning behind-the-scenes photographs take the viewer inside the 1961 film, The Misfits, which would be the last film for it's stars, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. Commentators include author Arthur Miller and surviving members of the cast and crew.
