Show Summary

Greeks: Crucible of Civilization is the PBS documentary series that explores the ancient empire of Greece from 500 B.C. until it's fall. The show uses narration from actor Liam Neeson, photography from ancient sites, interviews with scholars, and actors in dramatic reenactments to the tell the story of the legendary empire. The story starts in 500 B.C., all the way through the catastrophic wars that left the empire in shambles. The series looks at the Greek philosophy, and how it survived their defeat and helped shape the world. The empire essentially invented both politics and democracy, laying down the foundation for future civilizations. The Greeks history is full of legendary characters like Thales, Pericles, and Socrates, and legendary battles and heroes.
