I lived in a town similar to Hooterville in eastern central Indiana between 2001 and 2003. I can safely say that there are real-life characters as outlandish as or even more incredible than the ones found on "Green Acres." I had to live through it to believe it!

Blame the distance from the reast of society, but then again, I know some people who aren't very bright....

These people were surely no dumber than the Beverly Hillbillies!

I like to think of them as eccentric. Mr. Haney sure wasn't dumb. He would fleece Oliver time and time again.

Dumb is too harsh for a good hearted group of people, naive may be more appropriate. Lovable for sure, Ebb might have a been a little dumb though. Even still he knew more about farming than Oliver...

Yeah, I think the characters needed to be dumb or naive, however you want to put it. I don't really think the show would have been all that funny, if everyone in the valley had college degrees and knew how to do everything. One of my favorite funny moments that always makes me laugh is that guy who waited on people in the Company Power, Water, and Gas company, who called out numbers, even though no one was there and would go through 3-21, even though, thier next number that they had was 22.

I've always loved this show.  A lot of the jokes are real groaners, but even today, I still find myself laughing out loud at times.

But remember, it's not Hooterville.... it's Hootersville!

They are not "dumb."  They are just different, and that is what makes the show so good.  If they were all genuises it would be a real snoozer.

Another funny aspect is how Lisa fits right in with everyone at Hooterville. Some of my favorite gags are when she's making some strange meal (how water soup, do it yourself peanutbutter, etc) and Eb comes right in, and says that's his favorite, as if it was a normal meal

This may sound strange, but since Mr. Drucker is the only one who was in the cast of both shows, I feel like I can write this. I think the Green Acres Hooterville is dumber than the Petticoat Junction Hooterville.

There is no Mr. Haney or the dumb painters in the Petticoat Hooterville. The only dumb one was Joe Carson.

I just don't understand why Seasons 4, 5 and 6 can't be released. Fans have been waiting so long and these three seasons have some of the funniest and craziest Green Acres episodes.
