Oliver races over some new soil samples for the university to analyze after learning his first batch was destroyed in shipping. Seeing an opportunity to get Oliver to give up farming, his mother spikes the dirt with items from her cosmetics bag. Eunice gets her comeuppance when uncouth Joe Carson shows up to woo her with an action-packed evening on the town: a poker game at the Elks lodge.
morelessDuring the end credits, a voice-over announces, "Miss Gabor's Gowns by Jean Louis".
Eunice's punishment for tampering with the soil samples is five dates with Uncle Joe Carson.
The lab analysis of the Douglas farm's soil reveals it to be 38% bath powder, 28% hand lotion, 14% toothpaste, 12 1/2% cold cream, and 8% nail polish remover.
Sam Drucker: (after Oliver announces they're moving back to New York) Of course, we'll miss you and Mrs. Douglas. People around here were just getting used to you.
Oliver: Thank you.
Joe Carson: (asking Eunice out on a date) How would you like to play a little poker at the Elks Club tonight?
Mother Douglas: The Elks Club?
Joe Carson: I can get you in. I'll borrow a tooth.
Mother Douglas: Really Mr. Carson, I am not interested.
Joe Carson: Well, that ain't the whole evening. Afterwards, we go bowling. Then we have a bite at the diner. Dutch treat, of course. I always go dutch on the first date. In case it don't work out, I ain't out nothin'.
Eunice: (tearful, after returning from a date with Joe Carson) How many more times do I have to go out with that uncouth Carson character?
Oliver: Now, where did you get the carrots? Lisa: I rented them from Mr. Haney.
Eunice: (Joe has just given Eunice a gift) Gum drops? Joe Carson: Yeah, you got gums, ain't cha?
