Arnold and Cynthia have a barking and oinking chat with each understanding what the other is saying. The audience is shown subtitles.
Arnold is watching TV on the Douglas set. It's the same western movie that's always playing on Hooterville television.
Hank Kimball's dog is an Irish Setter named Quincy.
Cynthia: (offering a subtitled suggestion to Arnold on making their dog/pig relationship work) We could move to Pixley. No one would know us there.
Fred: (after Arnold starts barking) Did you hear that? That hussy's taught him to bark like a dog.
Fred: (to Doris, as Cynthia howls outside his window) No pig of mine's gonna run around with any kin of Haney's!
(Cynthia negotiates with Arnold about his refusal to accept her proposal of marriage) Cynthia: Would it help if I became a pig?
Lisa: (explaining Arnold's love to Oliver) Cynthia isn't a pig; she's a basket hound.
Lisa likens the difficulties of Arnold and Cynthia with their respective fathers to those of Romeo and Juliet, or as she says: "Romeo and Julius."
