The phone company will run a line to the Douglas' house in three months. The power company will take six months.
Sarah, the Hooterville phone operator, owns the company. Later in the series' run, her son Roy Trendell owns it and Sarah is his employee.
The character of Hank Kimball makes his debut in this episode.
Lisa: (to Haney, discussing Bertram not crowing) We didn't hear a peep out of him!
Haney: Well, he ain't a peeper. He's a crower.
Oliver: He's not a crower. He's a pecker!
Eb: Having trouble with Bertram?
Oliver: Yes, he won't crow.
Eb: Well, Bertram isn't a crower. He's a pecker.
Sid Melton makes his first appearance on the series, but as plumber Ed Ferguson. He would return later in the sesaon as Alf, half of the Monroe brothers.
