Lisa has troubles in the kitchen: She washes the toaster in the dishwasher and heats the electric coffee pot on the hot stove.
Doris Ziffel used to have to convince strangers that she wasn't John Wayne.
Oliver assigns each electrical appliance a numeric value. The total number can not exceed 7 or the generator will blow: can opener=1; coffee pot, electric iron, mixer, and toaster each=2; frying pan=3; rottisserie=4; dishwasher=5; washing machine, refrigerator, and freezer each = 6.
The locals base their crop choices on their wives' aches and pains. Since Doris Ziffle is complaing of lumbago, they're planting corn. Swollen ankles mean carrots, cranky spells mean soybeans, cold means potatos, a headache dictates asparagus and head knots mean wheat.
Doris:(Lisa's gives Doris a gift) It looks like toast.
Lisa: Thank you. The first two you couldn't recognize.
Hank: I've been on my feet a lot lately. I think I have a touch of carrot ankle. Not enough to plant by.
Fred:(advising Oliver what to plant) Mr. Douglas, take the advice of a man who's been farming for 40 years. Don't fly in the face of Doris' lumbago.
Lisa: (Oliver's holding up an electric iron) What's that for? Oliver: Haven't you ever used this? Lisa: Oh yes. To hold the door open.
