Episode Summary

Episode 1 - Season 2
It's eight weeks since Guy stole the ambulance and drove to a literal cliffhanger ending with Mac and Martin in tow. Mac is now in a coma and is receiving a constant stream of admiring visitors while Guy is not coping too well with the fact that he's slept with his mother. She's not having a great time of it either with her office staff's constant ribbing. However, Martin is happy to have a new brother and he's now gone as far as kissing Karen's tongue!moreless

  • In this episode Mac is in a coma and everyone deals with it, each in their own way. Guy is crazy. Sue is a rapist. Everyone else is their normal selves.moreless

This was the last episode of Green Wing for me. I don't mind dirty humor but some of this was too far, like rubbing nipples. However, the nail in the coffin for me was Sue jacking off a guy in a coma. I'm done. I think that is the most vial and disgusting way to work out a plot device I've ever seen. It's not funny... It's rape. I feel like I sound extreme but it really grossed me out and so... I'm done.

Too bad because I thought the characters were funny and even kind of like Sue being so over the top.moreless
  • Not the best episode of Green Wing I have ever seen, but still good.

The fantasy dream sequences in Mac's brain were good fun, little bits of random humour that never fail to pop up around the show.

The storyline is now more obvious, understandable for a show in its 2nd series; everyone has now begun to care a lot more for the characters and their relationships with each other. Especially, for me, Mac and Caroline.

Of course, our favourite characters are still much like they always were. The sweet yet slightly-loser-ish Martin, the arrogant and egotistical Guy, the psychotic Sue White, the one and only Dr. Statham... they're still all there and won't disappoint.

Favourite moments were when Guy threatened Mac with the cat, and also when he was in there disguised as an old lady. And, oh yes, Mac's great awakening. Without a doubt, the BEST waking up from a coma I have ever seen.moreless
  • A welcome return to one of the most inventive, humourous and at times downright firghtening shows on television. Green Wing's series opened to reveal that despite a cliffhanger ending nothing much had changed at the hospital and thank god for that.moreless

The characters are stronger than ever, the comedy is brilliant with exchanges such as:

"Did you bring a gun and a cat into Mac's room?"

    "It was only a replica."

    "You've got a replica cat?"

sitting beautifully beside some nice visual gags (one dream sequence involving a certain boyband is of particular note) and observational humour.

There does seem to have been a shift from the more slapstick structure of last season to a more story-focussed show, in many respects a measure taken to ensure the programme's longevity, but this is not necessarily a bad thing, as it allows the humour of relationships between the characters, such as Martin and Guy having to acknowledge that they are half-brothers, to be focussed on and developed.

While new viewers may have found some difficulty in grasping exactly what was going on due to the shows frenetic pace, this was indeed an excellent season opener, that setup some wonderful ideas for the season ahead.moreless
