Dr. Arizona Robbins
Dr. April Kepner
Dr. Jackson Avery
Dr. Meredith Grey
Dr. Cristina Yang
Mark says about making a patient looking like Frankenstein but Frankenstein is not the name of the monster that he was alluding to. Frankenstein is instead the name of the scientist who created the monster.
Alex: Wait, Bailey paged you too? Any idea why?
Cristina: Who cares? As long as it gets me away from Altman.
April: She's gonna fire us, isn't she?
Alex: Why would she fire us?
Jackson: There was that patient mix-up in the OR.
Cristina: Oh, you should be fired.
April: Me? You guys didn't update the board.
Alex: That's why she looks so pissed off.
Richard: Not now, Karev. I'm in no mood.
Alex: You need to get Meredith her job back.
Richard: What do you think I'm doing? I've spent the whole morning trying to get her a job.
Alex: Meredith doesn't need a job, she needs this job.
Richard: It's not gonna happen, the board's already made their decision.
Alex: Let me talk to them. I- I mean, maybe I don't know what I saw, maybe I-I lied to get the chief residency.
Richard: I can't let you say that.
Alex: Oh the hell you can't.
Richard: Karev, this is not on you.
Alex: Yeah it is. It's all on me.
Teddy: How deep are you placing the tube?
Cristina: 21 cenimeters, exactly. Oh, what do you know. I'm in.
Teddy: Great. Now explain why chose that size intertrachal tube.
Cristina: Because I'm in my fifth year of residency and I know what size tube to use for a basic intibation. Why are you treating me like a first year?
Teddy: Because no one ever did. I bet your first year you could do things better than most third years.
Cristina: Well, yes, I could. Why are you punishing me for this?
Teddy: I'm happy. That makes me see you differently. Your arrogence is not your fault, your arrogent because you're so good. People let you slide by, skip steps, they gave you the hard stuff but let you skip the easy stuff. I have no doubt you can tell me how to do a cornary artery bypass but I'm not sure you could tell me why you chose that size intertrachal tube.
Meredith: Owen. She didn't have the abortion. She wants to but she can't do it because of you. Because she loves you and instead of loving her, you're punishing her. And for what? For being the woman that you fell in love with?
Owen: This isn't any of your business.
Meredith: Okay, do you know what will happen to Cristina if she has a kid that she doesn't want? It will almost kill her. Trying to pretend that she loves a kid as much as she loves surgery will almost kill her, and it'll almost kill your kid. Do you know what it's like to be raised by someone who didn't want you? I do. To know you stood in the way of your mother's career? I do. I was raised by a Cristina. My mother was a Cristina. And as the child she didn't want, I am telling you, don't do this to her, because she's kind and she cares and she won't make it. The guilt of resenting her own kid will eat her alive.
Owen: Grey, I got a guy with severe crush injuries and Callie's coming in with an in field amputation. Let's move, we gotta--
Meredith: I got fired, okay? I got fired.
Owen: I'm sorry, I didn't know.
Meredith: Yeah, well, now you know.
Lexie: I'm- I'm thinking that this is not our patient.
Bailey: The who's patient is it?
Lexie: I-I don't know. I-I just--
Bailey: You don't know? I'm holding a scalpel in my hand, you had better find out.
Derek: Meredith, what did you say to Janet?
Meredith: Nothing, why?
Derek: I just finished answering a dozen questions about Zola's sleeping arrangements.
Meredith: She's finishing her home study, that's routine.
Derek: Okay, well there was nothing routine when she said that there were inconsistancies with our stories.
Meredith: What did she say?
Derek: She said that she spoke to you and some red flags went up.
Meredith: Well I did see her earlier but I didn't say anything.
Derek (pager beeps): I gotta go. I got a surgery.
Meredith: Well, I'll talk to Janet, I'll--
Derek: No, don't. Don't do anything. I will talk to her, I will take care of this. You've already-- Don't talk to her.
Lexie: I am a terrible person.
Jackson: I know, awful.
Lexie: I got Meredith's surgeries. I'm reaping joy from the fact that my sister got fired.
Jackson: A terrible person wouldn't feel terrible about reaping the joy.
Owen: He can't do it. I'm going.
Callie: I should go. I'm the orthopedic surgeon.
Owen: You have a wife. A child. I'm going.
Teddy: Yang. What are 'ya doin'?
Cristina: I presented as thristy so I treated the symptoms with eight ounces of water, now that I'm finished I will place the bottle in the recycling bin so as to avoid excess strain on Seattle's landfills.
Teddy: That's funny. You're a funny girl.
Meredith: April, I need you to reassign these cases.
April: Uh Yang, take over Meredith's cases.
Cristina: I'm with Altman and Meredith should keep her cases.
April: I am your chief resident and you have to do what I say.
Meredith: April, it's fine. I can wait. Just assign them when you have a minute. (April walks off)
Cristina: You're just gonna give up?
Meredith: I was fired.
Cristina: So what are you going to do about it? You have to go talk to the board.
Meredith: The board fired me.
Mark: Let's take a look at your handiwork. (pulls the bandage down off the patient's face) Oh, dear, God. My grandma could sew up a stuffed turkey better than this.
Jackson: Yeah, it was pretty jagged in there, so--
Mark: Did you ever hear of burying your stitches?
Jackson: Alright, so I will fix it.
April: Oh, Jackson. There's a new patient in bed three.
Jackson: Kinda busy, April.
Mark: Yeah, kinda busy turning this guy into Frankenstein. Go. Go. Make yourself useful.
Jackson: I will fix this. (walks off)
Derek: Don't you think you're being a little hard on the kid?
Mark: He's a lightweight. Be thankful that you have Meredith.
Derek: She was fired.
Mark: Is she okay?
Derek: I don't know.
Bailey: We need a Gunther.
Richard: Dr. Bailey, it's the first day of fifth year, I--
Bailey: And they're at each others throats, we need a Gunther.
Richard: I've got more pressing problems. I'm trying to find a new spot for Meredith Grey. You know, I heard they have good research fellowships at Mass Gen. I thought a recommendation from you would--
Bailey: You want me to write a recommendation for Meredith Grey?
Richard: By the end of the day would be fine.
Bailey: To whom it may concern, Meredith Grey is an excellent example of the kind of resident, you absolutley should not hire. She underminds ground-breaking clinical trials, she has absolutley no respect for rules, authority or as it turns out the oath that she took when she became a doctor. She will most likely tarnish the reputation of you, your doctors and your hospital. Sinicerly, Dr. Miranda Bailey. Meredith Grey is the reason that we need a Gunther.
Alex: What can I do?
Callie: Kepner called. She wants you back at the hospital.
Alex: I can't go back.
Callie: Yeah, it sucks that everyone hates you. Now go.
Derek: What is Zola alright?
Meredith: She's fine. It's me.
Derek: I have to go.
Derek: Meredith, I can't. I just... I--
Meredith: I got fired.
Derek: What'd you think was gonna happen? (walks away)
Teddy: Dr. Yang can you tell me why you entered the plura with a Kelly clamp?
Cristina: Why? Am I too low? Do you suspect a traumatic herniation?
Teddy: No, no. I just wanna know your thinking.
Cristina: Because that's how you put a chest tube in.
Cristina: What do you mean why? Because you'll kill the person if you do it wrong.
Teddy: Tell me like I'm an idiot, like I'm a medicial student.
Teddy: I need to make sure your foundation is solid.
Teddy: I'm asking the questions, Cristina. Not you. Tell me why you entered the plura that way.
Cristina: You know, there's bound to be piles of head trauma, Derek's gonna have to talk to you.
Meredith: I got fired.
Meredith (looking at Alex): The Chief fired me.
Cristina: You son of a bitch. I mean, are you happy now? Because this is all because of you. (starts shoving him) You and your big fat stupid mouth.
Alex: Get off. (Cristina continues to shove him)
Bailey: Kepner, control your people.
Owen: We're going to the scene of an on-sight amputation. Woman's trapped under her car, you guys are gonna get swamped with bodies, Kepner you're in charge until I get back.
April: Yes, sir. Have fun.
Callie: For an amputation?
April: I- I meant good luck.
Meredith: Derek's refusing to work with me, isn't he?
Richard: The board met this morning. They feel that a suspension would send the wrong message. They feel that what you did disgraced the hospital, the profession. I'm sorry. I did everything I could.
Meredith: So what are you saying?
Richard: You're fired. Effective immediatly. You're no longer a doctor at Seattle Grace.
Arizona: Alex, this is serious. If you want the peds fellowship next year, you're gonna have to earn it.
Alex: I just brought over a bunch of sick kids from Africa.
Arizona: Well, did you publish an article about it? Because all the people applying for peds fellowships, they've all been published.
Alex: You're already getting resumes?
Arizona: Yes, and you're way behind. Listen, I hate to kick a guy when he's down, but-- Alex: Down? Who's down? I'm not down.
Arizona: You narced on a fellow surgeon, you're a pariah. You're living in the hospital, and you look like a bum and you've got really bad breath, really, really bad. Do you need me to go on?
Alex: No, no. I'm good.
Teddy: Oh, God what is she doing here?
Cristina (looks around): I'm sorry? Wh-?
Teddy: It's what you're thinkin', I mean you thought I'd run away to Germany and you wouldn't have to see me again which wasa relief after all the drama we've been through in the last year. I'm right. Tell me I'm right.
Teddy: Okay, so here's the deal, I'm here and I'm in a happy place and I'm done with drama so, if you wanna learn, I wanna teach.
Cristina (looking shocked): Great.
Mark: You want plastics? I'm not seein' it.
Jackson: Is this about Lexie because I thought you were cool with that?
Mark: This isn't about sex, it's about medicine.
Jackson: Then I don't understand.
Mark: You're a good surgeon. Not a great one. Which is why I surprised Lexie was even in to you.
Jackson: But this isn't about Lexie.
Mark: Nope. How she's doin' by the way?
Jackson (sighs): Wow.
Cristina: Did he talk to you?
Meredith: No, he won't even look at me.
Cristina: Ah, you tampered with his clinical trial, he thinks it's kinda unforgivable.
Meredith: It was for Adele and the Chief--
Cristina: I-I know you regret that you messed up his trial, but not what you did. I know. You don't have to defend yourself to me. I'm kind of unforgivable myself, remember?
Meredith: But you're not. Not yet, at least. Have you told him?
Cristina: I call him, he doesn't pick up, he sees me, he walks away, okay? I'm not gonna yell 'I didn't get the abortion yet' down the hallway.
Meredith: Well, so are you going to go through with it? Or are we gonna sit there again and not get the abortion?
Cristina: Tonight. 6 o'clock. I'm doing it. Now, I gotta go suck up to Teddy.
Teddy: Hey, you guys going to that breakfast thing?
Arizona: Uh, yeah after we drop her off at day care.
Teddy: Oh my, God. Look at her she is so beautiful. (in baby voice to Sofia) Hey, hey. You are beautiful. And you got the best mommies, did you know that? Yes, you do. Oh, you so do. (Sofia coos) Hello, hello, hello.
Callie: What's wrong with her?
Arizona: She's getting laid, she's unnaturally cheerful. (Lexie walks by with a group of interns)
Callie: Oh, new interns. I hate new interns.
Teddy: Seriously? I love new interns. They're the future, the next generation, filled with hope and promise, innovation.
Arizona: Wow. The sex with Henry must be really good.
Teddy: Earth-shattering. (Arizona covers Sofia's ears) Not even Yang is gonna get me down.
(Lexie and Jackson are in bed, Zola is crying in the other room)
Lexie: Okay, I'm-- I-I can't have sex when there's a baby from a broken home in the next room.
Owen: They're living together, in your house, Kepner says.
Derek: This is my house. Did she say how they're doing?
Owen: Nope. Didn't ask. I don't care. You want me to ask for you?
Derek: No. I don't care either.
Meredith (opening voiceover): Even good marriages fail. One minute you're standing on solid ground, the next minute, you're not. And there's always two versions, yours and theirs. Both versions start the same way though; both start with two people falling in love. You think yours is the one that's gonna make it. So it always comes as a shock. The moment you realize it's over. One minute you're standing on solid ground, the next minute, you're not.
Meredith (closing voiceover): Do you have what it takes? If your marriage is in trouble, can you weather the storm? When the ground gives way and your world collapses, maybe you just need to have faith and trust that you can survive this together. Maybe you just need to hold on tight and no matter what, don't let go.
(Bailey is in line at the cafeteria, getting food)
April (walks up): Dr. Bailey, how'd you do it?
Bailey: I put down the English muffin first, then the bacon, then the egg.
Bailey (holds her hand up to stop April): Some people may be suprised by this method thinking that you would put the bacon on top of the eggs and those people would be right, because see what I'm doing? (puts bacon on top of the eggs) Bam! An extra layer of bacon right on top, and then you put on the other half of the muffin. And there you go, that's a breakfast sandwich.
April: No, no, no. I mean, how did you get people to listen to you as chief resident?
Bailey: Dr. Kepner, I'm eating, leave me alone with my food. Figure it out on your own.
Meredith: I have a plan. I'm gonna be a mom.
Cristina: Okay. Mer, there's a giant sinkhole. Teddy is all over me. Don't page me unless you have a serious--
Meredith: Maybe getting fired was a good thing. What do cheerful people say when something crappy happens and they make it sound like it wasn't crappy?
Cristina: A blessing in disguise.
Meredith: Yeah. Maybe that's what this is. This is that. And I can make jam and drive carpool and have playgroups. And maybe that's enough. And maybe I'll be a great mom.
Cristina: Okay, okay. I'm gonna vomit call me when Meredith comes back.
Meredith: And maybe you wanna be a mom, too and that's why you can't go through with it.
Cristina: I wish I wanted a kid. I wish I wanted one so bad because then this would be easy. I would be happy. I'd have Owen and my life wouldn't be a mess, but I don't. I don't want a kid. I don't wanna make jam, I don't wanna carpool, and I really, really, don't wanna be a mother. I wanna be a surgeon. And please, get it. I need someone to get it. And I wish that person was Owen and that any minute he'd get it and show up for me. But that's not gonna happen. And you're my person, and I need you to be there at six o'clock tonight to hold my hand because I am scared, Mer, and sad because my husband doesn't get that. So, I need you to.
