Alex is seen working at the hospital. However, he was suspended for one week in the last episode for having Ava in the gallery which was only a day of difference.
(Mark and Derek are walking on a dirt road in the woods)
Mark: That woman loves me.
Derek: Erica Hahn?
Mark: I'm tellin' 'ya, we went out last had a couple drinks...
Derek: You and Erica?
Mark: Me and Erica... and Callie.
Derek (chuckles): Alright, so it wasn't a date.
Mark: You wanna tell me where we're goin'?
Derek: Why does it always have to be about the destination? Why can't it be about the journey?
Mark: Because I'm wearing 300 dollar shoes.
Derek: Meredith told me that she doesn't want to see other people.
Mark: She find out about you and Rose?
Derek: No, it was just a kiss.
Mark: Yeah, but you're not the kind of guy who makes out with nurses in scrub rooms, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Erica: Dr. Torres.
Callie: Dr. Hahn. Anyone who can out drink me and still kick my ass at the dart board gets to call me 'Callie'.
Erica: Last night was actually fun, wasn't it?
Callie (laughs): Mmhmm.
Erica: And I'm not a group person.
Callie: Me neither.
Erica: I think it's because I generally don't like people.
Callie (smiles): Me neither.
Erica (the elevator doors open and Mark is standing there): Case and point. (they laugh as they exit the elevator and walk by him)
Mark: What's so funny?
Callie: You didn't tell your mom that we broke up?
George: What?
Callie: Your mom is making us baby clothes because she thinks that we're still trying to get pregnant, because she thinks that we're still married, because she thinks you're still the kind of person who would never cheat on his wife. Hand-stitched unisex baby clothes! They're yellow and green and go up to toddler sizes. (she throws the clothes at him) And she's waiting for you in the lobby.
Erica (seeing Mark pushing Elizabeth in a wheelchair): Dr. Sloan, why are you endangering the life of my patient?
Mark: Because your patient had her hands all over one of my patients.
Elizabeth: She had a staff infection and I was trying to heal her.
Erica: Don't worry your pretty little head about it, Sloan. Karev?
Mark: You notice that even when you're insulting me, you manage to tell me how pretty I am?
Erica: It wasn't meant as a compliment.
Mark: Is this like a gender reversal thing with you, where you're the big man on campus, and I'm the hot blonde whose ponytail you can't stop pulling?
Erica: Why don't you get that I just don't like you? That I think that you are a crass, predatory, ape of a man, who just happens to be a decent surgeon?
Mark (to Elizabeth): You wanna heal someone? Heal her.
Erica: Okay, here's the thing. You're too pretty.
Mark: Oh, come on.
Erica: No. So pretty, in fact, that if we didn't work together, we would probably be... But the point is that we do work together. And in order for me to do my job, I need to leave who I am outside the doors of this hospital.
Cristina: Back off. Elizabeth Archer is my patient.
Izzie: Technically, she's Hahn's patient, but whatever.
Cristina: Ooh, I'm scrubbing in on a major coronary artery dissection with Hahn, and what you're not even gonna fight me for it?
Izzie: I'm not doing the cardio thing anymore. I am over it.
Cristina: You're over it? (Izzie starts to walk off with a few charts) Whoa, whoa. Why? What do you have?
Izzie: Nothing. I'm charting.
Erica (walks up): Stevens. Elizabeth Archer's chart?
Izzie: Yang has it. You two have fun. (walks off)
Cristina: She's not a cardiothoracic surgeon, but I could've told you that. I am the rock star.
Erica (seeing Alex looking for charts and finding none): Karev, are you a rock star?
Alex: Always.
Erica: You're with me today. (hands him the chart) Congratulations, your life just got more interesting.
Meredith: Can you imagine how horrible this must be for her?
Cristina: This is why people shouldn't have kids.
Izzie: What's the matter with you? It's Bailey's baby.
Cristina: See, no, it's a trauma case. If we are gong to be at all effective in saving that kid's life, it can't be Bailey's baby. He's a blunt trauma case.
Izzie: You and Hahn are exactly alike. The two of you deserve each other.
Cristina: Thank you.
Meredith: I thought that you loved cardio.
Cristina: No, no, no. She's pretending not to. Can't take the pressure, Iz?
Izzie: You're right, Cristina. In the contest to see who can be the best robot, you win.
Alex: How's Tuck?
Izzie: He's still not breathing on his own. You know, I wish I could help, but I can't think of anything I can do. Cristina always knows what to do.
Alex: What's your deal with her? With Yang?
Izzie: Nothing. There's no deal. I'm crippled with envy.
Alex: Of Yang? 'Cause she's better at cardio than you?
Izzie: She's not better than me. She's just-- she knows what she wants. She has this faith in her skill and herself and her future in cardio. It's an unwavering faith. She knows who she is and I want that. I was chasing cardio because I want what she has.
Alex: She's a robot.
Izzie: Not the robot part. The faith part. I want that.
Derek: What are you doing?
Meredith: I'm making an omelete.
Derek: What do you think of the house?
Meredith: The house? I think the house is great.
Derek: You know, if you don't like it you can tell me. It's your house, too.
Meredith (she drops the egg she was about to crack on the floor): Damn. Um...
Derek: So, why are you cooking again?
Meredith: Lexie was having a bad night and I thought I would something semi-sisterly.
Derek: Really?
Meredith: Really.
Alex (knocks on her door): You getting up?
Izzie: Yeah. Maybe. I don't know. What's that smell?
Alex: Someone's cooking.
Izzie: That's not cooking. That's not cooking.
Alex: You're gonna be late you know that, right?
Izzie: I hate work.
Alex: Since when?
Izzie: Since I hate it. I hate Cristina. I hate Hahn. I hate it.
Lexie: What is that smell?
George: It smells like sulfer.
Meredith (knocks on the door, but doesn't open it): Breakfast.
Lexie: Oh, it's breakfast.
Alex: Dude, what the hell is that?
Derek: Meredith cooked, she wanted to do something nice for Lexie.
Lexie: You cooked for me?
Meredith: It's no big deal. Just eggs and avocado and whatever cheese that was in the fridge.
Tucker: Miranda.
Bailey: Oh, you're talkin' to me now, as I'm on my way out the door.
Tucker: You're always on your way out the door. Are you interested in being a part of this family, or not?
Bailey: I can't-- I can't do this now.
Rose: Sweet tart?
Derek: Do you ever eat anything that even remotely resembles real food?
Rose: You're gonna have to take me to dinner and find out.
Derek: I can't do that. That kiss was unexpected, I liked kissing you. I enjoyed kissing you, but I'm seeing somebody.
Rose: Meredith Grey. Everybody knows about you and Meredith Grey.
Derek: I have to see it through. I'm sorry.
Rose: Don't be, it was just a kiss.
George (seeing Lexie's rash): What happened to you?
Lexie: I'm an adult child of an alcoholic, that is what happened to me. I have boundary issues. When Meredith made me eggs this morning, I couldn't not eat them. I had to pretend I wasn't allergic to eggs, and now I have a rash covering my entire body.
George: Give me your arm.
Lexie: I'm co-dependent, my throat is closing up. (George injects her with stuff to help her) Ow... and now my arm hurts. Thanks.
Richard: I want you to stay with Dr. Bailey. She's pretty worked up and I wanna make sure that doesn't get in the way of the baby's care.
Bailey (overhearing): I don't need a baby sitter.
Richard: I know you don't. (Richard nods to Meredith, she gets it and follows Bailey)
Richard: Dr. Bailey. Rumor has it Dr. Hahn has a patient who's wandering the halls.
Bailey: Oh, she's back in her bed, sir.
Richard: And laying her hands on other patients.
Bailey: It was just one patient.
Richard: And healing them.
Bailey: For which there's a perfectly reasonable medical explanation. (Bailey's phone rings)
Richard: Of course there is. But I can't have a hospital full of sick people thinking there's a miracle woman on the cardiac ward. (Baileys phone is still ringing) It creates panic and hysteria and frankly, it's bad for business. (about Bailey's phone) Are you gonna answer that?
Bailey: No, sir. I'm not.
Richard: Are you gonna make sure this woman keeps her hands to herself?
Bailey: Yes, sir, I am.
Richard: Thank you, Dr. Bailey.
Tucker: Why do you even think he went into that room? You're the only one that ever goes in there. He went looking for his mama. He went lookin' for his mama and wound up in the hospital!
Bailey: You made a bad choice, huh, Tucker? You picked a bad wife, she made a bad mother, she made you stay home, raise your son, and she almost killed him. Poor you, huh?
Rose: It was one kiss, okay? It was a good kiss, maybe even a great one, but are we going to let one maybe great kiss get in the way of what up until now has been a really great professional relationship, even though you didn't know my name until recently? No, we are not. So, friends?
Derek: Friends.
Alex: Seriously, you're talking about chakras?
Elizabeth: We're talking about how you've got a darkness at your throat chakra where your voice should be. Because whatever happened to you was so ugly and went on for so long that you don't talk about it. You were so badly that sometimes you want to hurt other people, just to spread it around. You were a good boy, Dr. Karev. A good, sweet, boy. But you're not a very good man. What happened to you?
Alex: Your artery is shredding. You need surgery. I'm not a very good man, but I do tell the truth. And the truth is that if you don't get this surgery fast, you're going to die.
Alex: She's like a bright yellow, right?
Elizabeth: What?
Izzie: What?
Alex: What I'm saying is that she's an optimist. She's the opposite of me. She's exactly the kind of person you want helping you, right?
Dawn: She brightens you, that's for sure.
Alex: Shut up.
Izzie: What are we talking about?
Alex: Just talk her through the surgery before she croaks, alright? Can you do that?
Izzie: Um, do you want me to talk you through it?
Elizabeth: In as much detail as possible, yes.
Izzie: Okay.
Alex (whispers to Izzie): Yang's got nothin' on you.
George: Did you know that his middle name is George?
Lexie: Tucks?
George: Yeah, after me.
Lexie: Huh. I thought that Dr. Bailey didn't like interns.
Meredith (about Derek): He wants to build us a house. With kids' bedrooms and French doors and that scares me to death.
George: Why? Just because of the Rose thing? Well, that shouldn't scare you. It was just one kiss.
Meredith: One kiss?
George: It wasn't like I was evasdropping but it wasn't like they were being secretive about it. It was just something that happened. Now you guys are back together, it's not happening anymore, so...
Meredith: Derek kissed Rose?
George: Yeah, but you knew that.... (Meredith walks away) ... That I'm an idiot.
Bailey (to Erica): You're new here. You don't know me. And if what you did today ends up saving my son's life, I'll thank you for it. But if I never have to look at you again after that, that'll be alright with me.
Callie: Hi. How've you been?
Mrs. O'Malley: Well, I've been worried, is how I've been. I've called and I've left messages, I know how busy you two are, but you can't pick up the phone once in a while?
Callie: I-- I--
Mrs. O'Malley: Never mind. I was in the neighborhood, and I hope you don't mind, but I just couldn't wait to show you some of the outfits I've been making.
Callie: Out-outfits?
Mrs. O'Malley: Now, don't get mad but Georgie told me you were trying, so...(holds up a yellow baby's sweater she made) What do you think? It's yellow.
Callie (smiling broadly, hiding her shock and confusion): I see that.
Izzie: Mrs. O'Malley, what are you doing here? (they hug) Does George know that you're here?
Mrs. O'Malley: Callie said that she'd find him for me. How are you dear? Are you okay?
Izzie (nervously): You talked to Callie?
Mrs. O'Malley: Poor thing. It's gotta be hard for her, y'know? You try and you try, but we're all human. Nobody's perfect and in the end it's nobody's fault.
Izzie (relieved): I'm so happy to hear you say that. I- I've just felt so terrible about it.
Mrs. O'Malley: I know Me, too.
Izzie: You know, we just... We didn't mean for it to happen. I know how that sounds, but it's true. (Mrs. O'Malley looks a little confused) We were drunk, it only happened one time and I know that it doesn't make it right, you have to believe me, it was never my intention to break up George's marriage. (Mrs. O'Malley looks really confused now) I mean, I didn't even know that I was in love with him. George was so distraught about it, and I think that's why he failed the intern test, so...
Mrs. O'Malley: Wh-Wh-What? He failed?
Izzie: Oh, no. He didn't tell you that part?
Mrs. O'Malley: He didn't tell me any part.
Izzie: But you said that you talked to Callie.
Mrs. O'Malley: About baby clothes. I thought she was having trouble getting pregnant. I made baby clothes.
Izzie: Oh... Oh, no.
George (walks up): Mom. (Mrs. O'Malley looks at him, shocked) What?
Izzie: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. (walks away)
Mrs. O'Malley: This is not okay, Georgie. This is not okay.
George: I- I--
Mrs. O'Malley: You're what? You're planning to marry Izzie now? You're planning an annulment?
George: Okay, this is not about Izzie.
Mrs. O'Malley: What the hell is it about? Because this isn't okay! This isn't okay with me, I raised you better than this.
George: It's about the fact that I should've never gotten married in the first place.
Mrs. O'Malley: But you did, you got married. You didn't invite me. You didn't let me plan the wedding. And I accepted that, I accepted it because you were happy and that's all that mattered. I won't accept this.
George: Mom--
Mrs. O'Malley: We're Catholic. We don't believe in divorce. And we certainly don't believe in adultery.
George: I'm sorry.
Mrs. O'Malley: Don't be sorry to me. Be sorry to Father Mike. You call him and he'll hear your confession and he'll get you and Callie into consulling.
George: It's too late for that.
Mrs. O'Malley: No, it's not too late. You made a vow to Callie and a vow to god, you just don't walk away from that. This is your soul we're talking about.
Mrs. O'Malley: Look I konw you think I'm old-fashioned and maybe I am. But it doesn't matter what I think. In god's eyes, marriage is forever.
Callie: Well, if it's any consolation, George and I got married on the Vegas strip at a 24 hour church of Elvis. I'm not sure god was even there.
Mrs. O'Malley: He's everywhere.
Callie: I used to believe in god. And marriage. And heaven and hell.
Mrs. O'Malley: But you don't anymore?
Callie (pauses): I believe in love. And seconds chances. And even though George wasn't the one for me, it was okay that I believed that he was, because... Well, for a little while at least, I got to be an O'Malley. And I really loved being an O'Malley.
George: I know I haven't called you in awhile. And that there's a lot that I haven't told you. I know I messed up. But I didn't wanna cause you anymore pain, and I didn't wanna disappoint you.
Mrs. O'Malley: You disappointed yourself, Georgie. You should be disappointed in yourself.
George: I am. I don't even reconize myself anymore. This isn't the guy that I wanted to be.
Mrs. O'Malley: Who do you want to be?
George: The guy Bailey named her baby after. I wanna be that guy again.
Mrs. O'Malley: You won't go to consulling?
George: That's just going to hurt everyone more.
Mrs. O'Malley: I miss your dad.
George: Me too.
Mrs. O'Malley: Move back home. I'll take care of you.
George: Mom, I think it's time that I start taking care of myself.
Derek: So, you never really told me what you thought about the house.
Meredith: I have a house.
Derek: Yeah, but that's your house. I'm talking about our house.
Meredith: Between yesterday and today you had plans drawn up?
Derek: No, I've had the plans for months. Between yesterday and today I decided to share them with you.
Meredith: Why?
Derek (sighs): So, nothing's really changed, has it? Everything's the same as it was.
Meredith: No... it's- it's just really a lot. And it's fast.
Derek: Alright, well, I'm trying to take a step forward.
Meredith: Okay. There are about a hundred steps between where we are right now and building our dream house. They'll be fun steps. They'll be sexy steps. And we'll try not to fall down them together. Okay?
Derek (kisses her): Okay.
Bailey (closing voiceover): As doctors, we know more about the human body now than at any point in our history. But the miracle of life itself, why people live and die, why they hurt or get hurt is still a mystery. We wanna know the reason, the secret, the answer at the back of the book... because the thought of our being all alone down here is just too much for us to bear. But at the end of the day, the fact that we show up for each other, in spite our differences, no matter what we believe, is reason enough to keep believing.
Bailey (opening voiceover): In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth, at least that's what they say. He created the birds of the air and the beasts of the field and He looked at his creation and he saw that it was good. And then God created man. And it's been downhill ever since. The story goes on to say that God created Man in His own image, but there's not much proof of that... After all, God made the sun and the moon and the stars and all Man makes is trouble. And when Man finds himself in trouble, which is most of the time, he turns to something bigger than himself, to love, or faith or religion, to make sense of it all. But for all surgeons, the only thing that makes any kind of sense is… medicine.
Lexie: Where's your girlfriend?
Alex: Back with her husband, I'm guessing... And I don't have a girlfriend.
Lexie: Or a conscience, apparently.
Bailey: I need to be with my son.
Erica: And what we need, Dr. Bailey, is to not have our patient's mother watching us perform his surgery. Dr. Grey, please escort Dr. Bailey back outside.
Bailey: No, there will be no escorting of Dr. Bailey anywhere, Dr. Grey. Now you can proceed.
Erica: I will not proceed until you leave this OR. Now, do you want me to stand here talking to you, or do you want me to try and save your baby's life?
Richard: Miranda?
Bailey: I just wanna hold my son's hand. I just wanna hold his hand, please.
Cristina: I'll hold his hand. Dr. Grey can hold the retractor, right?
Lexie: Yeah.
Cristina: I'll hold his hand. Dr. Bailey, if it's alright with you, I'll hold Tuck's hand.
Bailey: Okay.
Meredith: So, yesterday you were making out with scrub nurses, and today you're building our dream house?
Derek: Yesterday we were dating other people.
Meredith: That's not the point.
Derek: That is the point. I told you that I wanted to marry you. I wanted to build a house and a life with you and you weren't ready.
Meredith: And Rose is? You don't want to build a life with me. You want someone. You want someone who wants the same things that you want.
Derek: I knew the minute that I showed you those plans you'd find a reason to walk away.
Meredith: So what you called my bluff?
Derek: I did, because I can't do this anymore. I can't do the fighting, the back and forth. I can't. Are we together or are we not?
Meredith: We were together. I was in love with you. You didn't tell me you were married.
Derek: Alright, so now we're gonna have that fight again?
Meredith: You didn't tell me about you nurse. You wanna know why I'm not ready to build a house with you? This is why, because I cannot trust you.
Derek: You can't trust anybody. And no matter what I do, you're always gonna look for reasons not to trust me. I can't do it anymore. I can't.
Meredith: Well, neither can I.
