Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Izzie returns to work on probation. It seems to everyone that Cristina is getting to run everything because she's sleeping with Burke. Derek's sister showes up for a visit. Alex overhears Callie and Mark. Callie and George talk.moreless

Izzie gets to return to work after being cleared by the legal department, but on the stipulation that she is Bailey's intern again. Bailey tells Izzie the only thing she is allowed to do is observe. Izzie has to shadow Meredith. They get a case of a victim that burned her hand while trying to prepare for the BAR exams. Turns out the patient has failed it five times and burned herself on purpous to get out of taken the exam again. Cristina seems like she's running the place and her friends don't like it. I thought George's comment about "who does she think she is, Bailey?" was hilarious. I also thought Alex's crack "maybe i should sleep with Burke" was funny as well. I love Cristina but she's being bi*chy to all of her friends, and that's just not right. Also Cristina takes Bailey's name off the board for scrubbing in with Burke. I didn't agree with that. I know she's trying to keep Burke's secret, but it really hurt Bailey's feelings, because now she thinks Burke is one of the people who doubts her judgement. When she confronted him about who took her name off the board, he lied to her. I felt bad for her. (Also last episode we heard her tell a story to a cancer patient about how she sometimes feels towards her baby. I wonder if that was the truth.) Meanwhile Derek's sister shows up. I thought Izzie's comment was funny. "McDreamy's sister is McBit*hy). That was great. So, how long are Derek and Meredith going to do this runaround thing? Either hook up or move on. Alex finds out about Mark and Callie sleeping together. George tries to talk to Callie, and she thinks he's calling her a pig. cute. Later she makes it clear to George that he needs to make up his mind and be sure what he wants before they can get back together. Will she tell George about sleeping with Mark? Will Alex get to it first? Alex seems to be doing great in Addison's program. Mark is being a jerk about Alex's potential in the future of plastics, which i think Alex is unsure of at this point. Addison and George work on a case together of a woman that has two uteruses and is pregnent with twins. We later find out one baby is six weeks older than the other. Apparently she slept with someone when she and her partner were broken up. I thought this was interesting. I didn't know this was even possible. Another great installment to the show.moreless
  • Check out this episode for a birthing mind boggle.

This was a very interesting and unique episode. I had no idea that it was possible for a woman to have two uteruses. In this episode a woman with two uteruses is having two babies, but their due dates are six weeks apart. How amazing is that. Dr. Derek Shepherd helps the Chief sew a button on his shirt using the surgery technique. ha ha A woman purposely burns her hand so that she doesn't have to take the bar exam, which she believes that she will fail again. And it's Izzy Stevens first day back to work after the death of her fiancee, Denny.moreless
  • When pushed to the edge, 'Grey' serves it up nicely; ham, eggs, and all

This episode was outstanding, and if you were distracted by the lame Fox attempt to sway ‘Grey’s rating by tuning into the OC, then you my friend missed a diamond. First of all, let it be said that as far as I am concerned all the women in Shepard’s life are awesome. His sister (McB**chy)is just what the doctor ordered, and yes that was a pun. Nancy really seemed to help Derek sort some things out and she introduced us to who I can only assume are the next two Shepherd family members, momma Shepherd and Kathleen. Back to the doctors, I love the little role playing George and Meredith did to comfort each other. It was classic ‘Grey’. Christina is obviously gone too power crazy and I cant wait for Bailey to snap her back into place, especially since Bailey is obviously taking this doubt against her to heart, and for good reason.. I am kind of sad at how Burke is just letting this get out of hand. Izzy still can’t seem to take orders, but if you’re really committed then sometimes you have to break the rules. On to the patients. You can always count on this show to give you good drama. Not only was the woman pregnant with twins, no she had to be pregnant, with two uteruses, and have a different father for each child, who by the way are 6 weeks apart. That’s good TV. I also love that whole eggs and ham metaphor, especially since it led to George calling Callie a pig. All I have to say is this show really makes you wanna watch, and if you’re tempted to look at other shows, ask yourself a question. Are you eggs, or ham?moreless
  • Why does everyone keep pushing Mcdreamy away from Meredith?

OMG! i am so sick and tired of everyone giving Derek advice and it being negative about him and Meredith! Why can't they just be together? He said it himself, he wants them to work! so then why in the previews does it show her out to dinner with Mcsteamy? This episode was soo good! but i absolutely hate dereks sister nancy! she called meredith a slut like 100 times! she needs to back down, and i'm glad derek defended Meredith, dang right! But might i add that getting to see Mcdreamy with his shirt off straight outta the shower was amazing <3! and George and Mer pretending to be christina and izzie for each other in the elevator! so cute! "mcdreamy was doing the mcnasty with mchottie? what a mcbastard!"moreless
  • Filler episode really though

I'm not quite sure what they were going for. It was a little all over the place. Apparently commitment was the theme- it was pushed at us from the start- but then it became about dysfunctional relationships and how they hurt other people. Christina is pregnant or crazy, or something. She needs to take a chill pill and Burke needs to take responsibility for his own actions before someone catches on to their scheme. SOMEONE has to think it is quite weird that she scrubs in on every single surgery he has and gets to write and- oh my god!- erase the OR board. The chief is going to get suspicious and look into it. This whole haze he's in because his wife left him isn't going to last for long and things are going to get even more awkward and uncomfortable on Grey's. The writers are keeping the McDreamy/Meredith thing simmering for a while, but if they keep holding out, it's just going to go bad and people are going to forget what it was like to actually see them together. Not enough drama though, a little tame by GA standards.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Goof: After George teases Alex about his patient with two uteruses, he then hands over her chart to the nurse and refers to his patient as 'Nicole' when in fact she was introduced at the beginning as 'Noel/Noelle'

    • Goof: When Bailey sees that Burke is having a Humpty Dumpty surgery, she writes her name on the OR board in big letters under Burke's but when Cristina erases it, it wasn't like how Bailey wrote it. Every other name on the board was written as is.

    • Goof: When Mark hands his cell phone to Alex he says he's on hold with the DMV. However, when George comes up afterwards Alex starts to dial a number - surely he was already connected?

    • The condition of the pregnant woman is called uterine didelphys. There are about 13 cases in the world were women are expecting twins that have due dates that are weeks apart, thus made in the 2 seperate uterus. [Source][Source]

  • QUOTES (28)

    • Derek: That's not gonna stay on… you're givin' it too much slack.
Richard (trying to sew on his button): You're blocking my light.
Derek: Think of it as a basic corner stitch.
Richard: I can figure out how to sew on my own buttons, thank you. I am a surgeon.
      Derek: Right.
Richard: Oh, for God's sake! You sew this on for me, and I get rid of Addison and Sloan.
      Derek: Really?
      Richard: No.
Derek: That's fine. I'll do it anyway.
Richard: So, I hear that you got a sister wanderin' the halls, is she plannin' on movin' here too?
      Derek: God, I hope not.
Richard: Derek, I know it's been hard on you.
Derek: He was like my brother. I have four sisters. Four very... annoying sisters. Mark was my brother, it's hard.
Richard: Divorce isn't all it's cracked up to be, huh?
Derek: I just want it to be easy. I just want it to be over and move on but...
Richard: You're in a surprising amount of pain.
      Derek: You and Adele?
Richard: I'm sewing on a button for the first time in my life. What does that tell you?
Derek: Technically, I'm sewing. (Richard gives him a look, he laughs) I'm just sayin'.

    • Nancy: So, tell me about the slutty girl. (Derek gives her a look) Fine, the slutty intern.
Derek: It was the 'slutty' part I had a problem with.
Nancy: Kathleen says she's not even single.
Derek: She is single, she is smart and she's a lot of things. And she's none of your business.
Nancy: Wow. I've never seen you like this over a girl before. Not even Addison.
Derek: I've never been like this over a girl before, especially Addison.
Nancy: Oh, don't be bitter. I mean shame on Addison and all that. I mean, he's Mark, Derek, what'd you expect? He's just Mark. And who hasn't gone there once or twice, right?
      Derek: What'd you just say?
Nancy: Everybody sleeps with Mark, it's like a right of passage. Derek I get it. I get that they made a terrible mistake.
Derek: It wasn't a mistake, Nance, it wasn't a mistake, okay? It was wasn't one night. It was months. Did you know about that?
Nancy: No. I had no idea.
Derek: Then shut up about it and eat your lunch.

    • Cristina (to the nurse writing on the OR board): Put Burke in OR two tomorrow at 10am, the usual scrub team. And get rid of his valve replacement at two--that's no good.
Doctor (walking up): Yang, I brought you a latte.
Cristina (takes the latte): You're not scrubbing in.
Doctor: But Burke always lets me scrub in.
Doctor 2 (walks up): Hey, Yang, can I get in on Burke's---
Cristina: No. No. Okay, no residents. So go away. (they leave, Cristina walks over to the nurse) Make sure you put the instrument tray on his left hand side, he needs the extra elbow room, okay?
Nurse: Dr. Burke has become very specific since coming back, hasn't he?
Cristina: Do you want me to tell him that you said that?
George (they are looking on from the top of the stairs): Burke's back and suddenly Cristina's running his board? Who does she think she is? Bailey?
      Meredith: She's helping him.
Alex: Bull. She's taking advantage. She gets out of rounds. She scrubs in on every surgery Burke does. She's ordering around 3rd year residents.
      Meredith: You guys are overreacting.
Cristina (to the nurse): I'm so sorry. It's completely illegible. I'm gonna like--- why don't you just write it properly? Can you please give me a minute?
George: She's writing on the OR board.
Alex: Maybe I should sleep with Burke.

    • Izzie: I'm here. Hi. (laughs nervously) Hello. The paperwork took well, forever and I'm all done with it now…. Can I just say how really graceful that I am to be back.
Bailey: Do you understand there are rules to your probation, protocol to follow.
Izzie: Oh, yeah. I know. Legal already took me threw lots of that stuff. The mandatory consuelling. The extra lab hours. The voluntary work with the transplant patients.
Bailey: That's the stuff that you're doing for the Chief. I'm talkin' about what you're doing for me.
Izzie: Okay, um….what am I doin' for you? (takes out notepad)
Bailey: Let's start off with the stuff you don't get to do: You will not interact with any patients. You will not be alone with any patients. You will be seen and not heard. You will perform no procedures. The OR is off limits. No pre-op, no post-op, no anything that has to do with an op. You have no authority. You have no opinions. You have no choice in this matter. Am I understood?
Izzie: Is there anything that I can do? I wanna be useful.
Bailey: Well, I can't use you. You've got earn back the right for any of us to trust you again. Until then you will be shadowing a different doctor each day.
Izzie: Well, who am I with today? (Meredith is walking up behind her) Dr. Montgomery? You?
      Meredith: Dr. Bailey, you paged.
Bailey (to Izzie): Dr. Grey. (turns to Meredith) You will make sure that Stevens observes only.
      Meredith: You want me to---
Izzie (laughs): Wait, Meredith---Meredith is the boss of me.

    • Richard: Legal cleared Stevens. Explain her parameters and make sure she understands it.
Bailey: Wait, Stevens is being assigned to me again?
      Richard: She's your intern.
Bailey: But I didn't think... Wouldn't it be better for her to start fresh with another resident?
      Richard: You don't want her?
Bailey: I want her to succeed.
Richard: There's still a good deal of fallout after the Duquette M&M. There's been talk. And I don't need to tell you that there are doctors in this hospital that have concerns about your judgment.
      Bailey: About my judgment?
      Richard: Stevens was your mistake.
Bailey: Do you, sir, have concerns about my judgment?
Richard: Do you? (pause) You're not gonna put those concerns to rest by not taking responsibility for Dr. Stevens. She's your intern.

    • Izzie: I've been waiting for you guys for a half an hour in the cafeteria. Since when do we eat in the patient's room?
George: Izzie, meet really old guy. We found him a couple days ago. (whispers) He sleeps all the time.
Cristina: It's quiet nobody bothers us. (Izzie sits down next to Cristina) What are you doing?
Izzie: Nothing. I'm literally not allowed to do anything. I knew coming back was gonna be--
Cristina: No, uh, what're you doing right now?
      Izzie: Eating my lunch.
Cristina: Okay. If you wanna socialize, or talk about your day or get into a little therapy session, do it over there.
      Izzie: Seriously?
      Cristina: Goodbye, Izzie.

    • Bailey: Uh, Dr. Burke, I understand that doctors in this hospital have concerns about my judgment, since Denny.
      Burke: Everybody loves a scandal.
Bailey: So you think it's just gossip? Not actual concern about me-- as a doctor.

    • Mark: You look like you could use a little cheering up.
      Callie: Not from you.
Mark: Well, if I recall, I was very good at cheering you, yep, three very cheerful times.
Callie: It was not cheerful, it was dirty. And like I

    • Mark: So we're clear: You knew when you stepped into that surgery you're forfeiting your future in plastics, right?
      Alex: But, Dr.-
Mark: Give me my phone back.

    • Mark: You say you want a career in plastics yet you can't tear yourself away from the baby catchers long enough to show me that you want it.
Alex: Being on hold with the DMV has nothing to do with my career in plastics, Dr. Sloan.
Mark: Only it does because being on hold with the DMV has everything to do with me and I have everything to do with your career in plastics.

    • Meredith: Derek sister is in town. (Cristina doesn't answer) Cristina, are you mad at me or something because I've been trying to talk to you all week and---
Cristina (cuts in curtly): Everything is not about you, Meredith.
Meredith: Okay. What's the matter? Because Alex and George are saying--
      Cristina: I-- I don't care.
      Meredith: What is your problem?
Cristina: I just-- I have bigger things in my life right now.

    • Meredith: It's okay to be nervous about being back here at work, about failing. But you haven't even been back a full day yet and already, you're pushing to bend the rules.
Izzie: Meredith, this is so not about me. This is about our patient, I am worried about our patient and get off your high freakin' horse.
Meredith: This is my patient try to remember that.

    • Mark: I wish Derek had told me you were comin' to visit.
Nancy: Like he tells you anything these days.
Mark: Yeah, well, I'm workin' on that.
Nancy: What're you doin' here, Mark? Are you tryin' to torture him?
Mark: He's my family, Nancy and I needed a change of pace…plus I slept with my tennis partners wife and he went out and bought a gun.
      Nancy: There it is.
Addison (walking over): Oh my, god. Nancy. (they hug) Lemme guess, did mom send you out?
Nancy: I hear Derek tried to ban you from Seattle.
Addison: Did he also tell you that he was living in a trailer? (they start laughing and see Derek in the background)
Nancy: Derek. (waves him over but he walks away, Nancy follows) I wanna see the two uteruses!
Addison: Yeah. I'll show you. (leaves)
      Mark: I miss her.
      Addison: Yeah.

    • Mark: Karev, you free?
      Alex: Absolutely, sir.
Mark: Great, I'm on hold with the DMV some mix up about switching my license and registration to Seattle. (hands Alex the phone) Take care of that for me.
Alex: Thanks for thinking of me sir. (George walks up as Mark walks away) O'Malley, how's it feel to be on the new gynie grunt?
George: I have a patient who was born with and four months pregnant with two uteruses. Two uteruses. (Alex looks surprised) You jealous?
Alex (quickly): No…no. I'm busy. I'm on hold. Important business for Sloan.
George: Right, it's super important, I'm sure.

    • Derek: That was mean.
Nancy: Kathleen and told me to find out why the slutty intern's panties were hanging on the hospital bulletin board.
Derek: Four sisters. Four sisters, not one brother. And you wonder why I don't call more.
Nancy: Feel free to explain about the panties at any time.
Derek: Nance, you know what, it's great to see 'ya. It's really great to have you here. But I have a job, and patients.
Nancy: I have a patient at 35 weeks with twins. Where is her OB?
Derek: Well, her OB should be on a plane back to Connecticut where she belongs.
Nancy: Okay, so we've covered the trailer. We still need to cover the slutty intern, and the divorce.
Derek: You know, you're starting to sound more and more like mom everyday.
      Nancy: Take it back.

    • George: You and me: We're like ham and eggs. I was the chicken, I just want you to know that, I know that I was the chicken. You put yourself out there, you were committed and I was just puttin' the eggs on the plate. Not the ham because you were the pig. (this catches Callies attentions and she glares at him) I was just involved, but now I'm committed.
Callie: Did you just call me a pig?
      George: a metaphor.
      Callie: Calling me a pig?
George: No, the point is that you're not the pig anymore. Now I am the pig. I'm the pig. I am the pig. (Callie glares at him and walks away) the pig.

    • Nancy: Oh, you should've seen that. Two uteruses, so unbelievably cool. And a cute baby to boot.
Derek: I'm glad you're enjoying your trip.
Nancy: Relax Derek, I'm going. I'm on a plane in two hours.
Derek: So you're going to report back to mom that--
Nancy: That you're you. Still running in circles around all the women in your life but... that's to be expected with four sisters and a dead dad.
Derek: I'm not running around in circles.
Nancy: Derek, can you even remember the last time you were alone? You've never been single-- ever. I mean, you're fine...but you're not happy. And you're not gonna be happy until you get some space. Just get away from Addie, away from the intern... just away. Figure out what you want.

    • George: Okay, I'll be Cristina for you, if you'll be Izzie for me.
Meredith: Deal. (George stops the elevator) Derek had a woman in his trailer last night. She was ugly, very ugly, except she was tall and beautiful. And he was naked.
George: Oh. McDreamy was doing the McNasty with a McHottie? That McBastard. (pauses) Er, how was that?
      Meredith: That was good.
George: Cristina enough? (Meredith nods) Really?
      Meredith: Yeah.
      George: Yeah?
      Meredith: Yeah.
      George: Excellent.
      Meredith: Channeling Izzie. Go.
George: Okay, Callie... she won't forgive me. Er, she won't talk to me. She dumped me. Which is uh… I don't care about, you know, at all...
Meredith: Good because you deserve better. You do. You are George. I mean seriously. Seriously. Seriously. Was that Izzie optimistic?
George (stunned): Yes, it's very Izzie. (sighs)
Meredith: What the hell has happened to us?
George: We are now the people that the people we want to be with avoid. Great.
Meredith: We have careers to think about. We don't need attention from them with perfect hair.
George: You know, we should make a pact. There's no more dating.
Meredith (nodding): No more Derek. No more Callie.
George: Just a hundred percent focused on our work.
      Meredith: They're dead to us.
George: They're freakin' corpses to us. (knocks fists with Meredith)

    • Greg: Dr. O'Malley can you tell me what's happening in there?
George: Thought you left…she thinks you left her.
Greg: Look, this is a lot to digest. I mean our daughter, my little girl, isn't even my little girl anymore.
George: Noelle is in there freaking out because you left.
Greg: Just tell me if she is ok.
George: She's going into premature labor. Dr. Montgomery Shepherd - Dr. Montgomery is about to do an emergency c-section on one of the babies to try to stop the labor on the other.
Greg: So you're delivering one of the babies right now, today?
George: In just a few minutes.
Greg: The boy or the girl?
      George: Greg! Ham or eggs?

    • Addison: I just accidently broke the news of my patient's infidelity to her fiancé.
Bailey: Yet no one is questioning your competence as a surgeon.
      Addison: No. What?
Richard: I need a button. (Addison and Bailey turn to look at him) I'm down to my last clean shirt and I'm missing a button. Adele always handled my buttons.
      Addison: Have you called her?
Richard: Adele? Oh no, I wouldn't want to bother her with something as trivial as a button. I don't suppose either one of you would want to…
Addison: I'm sorry I have two uteruses to attend to.
Bailey: I have many skills many skills…surgical skills. Your button ruptures its esophagus, I'm your woman. Otherwise...(leaves and Richard pulls his coat closed to hide the missing button)

    • Greg: From the first moment I saw Noelle, I was ham.
George: Did you just say ham?
      Noelle: Here we go.
Greg: You're either ham or eggs. You gotta ask yourself in every situation are you the chicken or are you the pig?
George: So its pig or chicken?
Greg: Look you gotta play the ham and eggs. Now, now the chicken is involved in the meal, now the pig, now the pig is committed, so the question is are you involved or are you committed.
      George: Ham or eggs!
      Greg: Ham or eggs.

    • (Meredith is Izzie's boss for the day)
      Meredith: I'm sorry about this.
Izzie: It's not your fault. Hey, do you want me to fetch you some coffee? Rub your feet, maybe?
Meredith (laughs): I did not ask for this assignment.
Izzie: I'm fine with it, really, I'm fine with it. (she bumps into Derek)
Derek: Dr. Stevens, (sees Meredith) welcome back.
      Izzie: Dr. Shepherd. Okay.
      Derek: Uh, Meredith, Meredith-
Izzie: Sorry, it's not like I can leave. I gotta stay by my boss' side.
Nancy (walks up): Okay, the trailer sucks but in the light of day, the land's nice. Seattle's pretty in the daylight. Plus you have your thing for ferries, so-
      Derek and Meredith: Ferryboats.
      Nancy: Right, whatever.
Derek: Dr. Stevens, Meredith, this is my sister Nancy.
      Meredith: Sister?
      Derek: Yeah, uh-hmm.
Meredith: Oh, (laughs) you're one of Derek's sisters. (laughs again)
Nancy: Um, yeah. Well I knew you didn't think I was the wife since you already ran her off. (Meredith looks stunned and gives a fake smile)
Derek: Nancy is visiting from Connecticut , she's on her way home now, straight back home.
Meredith (forced): Well, it was nice to meet you.
Nancy: Okay. (Izzie and Meredith force smiles and walk away)
Izzie: McDreamy's sister is McBitchy. (laughs)

    • Nancy: I take it that was the slutty intern you cheated on Addision with?
Derek: She's not slutty. What are you doing here?
Nancy: You bailed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and you live in a trailer, and you're getting a divorce. And then there's the slutty intern.
Derek: I really don't like you.
      Nancy: You love me.

    • Meredith (opening voiceover): To make it - really make it - as a surgeon - it takes major commitment. We have to be willing to pick up that scalpel and make a cut that may or may not do more damage than good. It's all about being committed, because if we're not? We have no business picking up that scalpel in the first place.

    • Meredith (closing voiceover): There are times when even the best of us have trouble with commitment, and we may be surprised at the commitments we're willing to let slip out of our grasp. Commitments are complicated. We may surprise ourselves by the commitments we're willing to make. True commitment, takes effort, and sacrifice. Which is why sometimes, we have to learn the hard way, to choose our commitments very carefully.

    • Bailey: Dr. Burke. Uh, could we have a moment alone? (Cristina walks away) I just, I didn't realize you were one of them: one of the doctors around with doubts about me or my abilities.
      Burke: Miranda, I'm not.
Bailey: My name was erased from the board - I have to assume that was you.
      Burke: Dr. Bailey---
Bailey: I just--- I just.. I need to know why. I need to know why you didn't want me in on your surgery.

    • George: I called Callie a pig.
Alex (laughs): To her face? (Izzie smirks)
Meredith: What happened to the she's a corpse thing?
Izzie: I can't believe how much things have changed around here.
      Meredith: How many times?
George: It was just one time.
Meredith: Then I get one too. Gin! (leaves)
Izzie: What was with that...with Meredith?
      George: We have a thing.
Izzie: You have a thing with Meredith and I don't know about it? I work with you. I see you everyday, I live with you, how come I don't know you have a thing.
      George: It's a work thing.
Cristina: Okay, the whole point of hanging out with really old guy is that he doesn't talk. The man is sedated. This is supposed to be a quiet place. (leaves)
Izzie: See? Changed. She's changed. Everything's changed.

    • Callie (to George): I was rude to you before, I'm sorry. I understand what you're trying to say that--you're the pig. That you are committed. Only we broke up. And I've been wanting to hear this from you for how long and you say this to me only after we've broken up-- I'm out of my element here, I break bones for a living, I used to live in the basement, most days I wear last night's eyeliner to work, and I don't give a crap about what other people think of me. Because I am a happily independent and successful woman and I like it that way, only when you say stuff like this, it just makes things too hard so please, don't chase me anymore, unless you're ready to catch me.
