Goof: In the beginning of the episode when Izzie comes back with her old teacher and the teacher said something about Izzie being pregnant and Meredith said " You pregnant?" Meredith should know that Izzie can't be pregnant because they took her eggs before she started treatment for her cancer, so she can have kids one day if she wish too. So she can't be pregnant.
Cristina: Thank you for my present. And I'll try to get over birds on the scrub cap. Owen: Teddy's best friend, she was this bird person she loved birds. And um... She died in the second tower. And that's why Teddy gave up her attending position at Columbia and she joined the Army. I told you she'd surprise you. Cristina: Thank you.
Callie: What's going on? Bailey: The Chief's takin' some time off from surgery for a while. Callie: Because he's having an affair? Bailey: Because of the merger. He's not having an affair. He's exhausted. Now, I've lost my work-husband and my husband-husband. Callie: So, I'll be your work husband. Bailey: You already have Sloan. Callie: Oh, yeah, that's true. What about Shepherd? Bailey: Pssh. Are you kiddin'? All that hair? I can't be lookin' at that all day.
Alex: So are you back or... Izzie: Oh did you want me to come back? Cause you told the Chief you had serious doubts about my abilities to be here. Alex: What? Izzie: You went behind my back and told the Chief I wasn't ready to be here. Alex: He was making cuts, I was protecting you. Izzie: You got me fired Alex. Alex: Is that what you think? Izzie: This job was the one thing I had left, the one thing, and you took that away from me. You interfered and got me fired. I have forgiven you for a lot Alex. I've had to forgive you for a lot, but I cannot forgive you for this. Alex: You made an assumption. You decided I did something. You didn't ask. You didn't hang around to talk. I am your husband and you didn't give me the benefit of the doubt. So you know what? I can't forgive you either.
Alex: Just explain her to me, okay? Because I don't get it. I don't get her. Meredith: And I do? I'm like you. She's all bright and shiny, after everything she's been through. I don't get it. But you're the one who married her, so you're the one who needs to figure it out. I can't solve everything. I lost the better part of my live trying to solve everything. So if you want an explanation, you have to go talk to, Izz.
Bailey: I'm going to say a name and then you are going to tell me that you are not having an affair with her... Izzie Stevens. Richard: What? Bailey: That's why you ignored the DNR, that's why you fired her, that's why the two of you were in your office screaming at each other. (Richard starts to laugh) It is not funny. That girl has cancer, and a husband, and... 'ya okay I know it's none of my business but it's now affecting people's lives.
Teddy (to Cristina): So you're gonna book an OR, becaause I'm your attending and when I tell you to book an OR, book an OR! (walks off) Arizona: I like her.
Meredith: It's my first day back. I just wanted to have a normal lunch. Cristina: Yeah, well take a look around. Nothing's normal.
Meredith: What did you say to Owen? Cristina: Oh, that she's gotta go. I mean, he knows how important this is to me. I need someone who is gonna take me to the next level, and he brings me like this Desert Storm Barbie who hasn't seen the inside of an OR in like ten years? I mean, if this is what he thinks of my talent, I gotta break up with him.
Teddy: So you and Yang? What happened to you and Beth? Mark: Oh he didn't tell you? Beth showed up at the hospital one day, she didn't even know he was-- Ow! (to Callie) Did you just kick me? Arizona: That was me. Teddy: Okay, wow. So when you called me up one day and told me about this great job and this great hospital you were just bringing me out here as a present for your new girlfriend? Owen: It is a great job with great people, one of whom just happens to be... yeah. Yeah. Teddy (laughs): That's okay. I'm not mad. I'm just gonna enjoy all the ways you'll have to make it up to me.
Arizona: Have you met Cristina Yang yet? Teddy: Mmm. Cristina Yang may, in fact, be the best resident I've ever seen. Owen: You think? Teddy: Yeah, I do. I don't think she likes me very much, but yeah. Mark: Ooh. She doesn't like you? Callie: Mark... Mark: No, you're probably right. Just because Yang drove off the last few cardio attendings... Owen: She did not. Mark: Burke. Owen: Come on, that-- Mark: Hahn. Owen: She had nothing to do with Hahn leaving. Callie: Nope, that was me. Mark: Dixon. Owen: Cristina just needs a strong Cardio attending. She deserves a strong Cardio attending.
Mark: You don't think it's Bailey? Callie: No. Mark: Really? I kinda like them together. It's not Yang, is it? Arizona: What're you guys talking about? Mark: Oh, you haven't heard? The Chief... Callie: Mark, you are a terrible gossip. Mark: I am an excellent gossip.
Izzie: He needs a spinal tap. His falling could have burst an aneurysm and some bleeds show up on a spinal tap that don't on the CT. Charles: And some doctors enjoy torturing patients because they messed up and don't know what they're gonna do with the rest of their lives. Izzie: You are the one that got me fired. You owe me this, you little bitch. Unless of course you want me to find that snotty Reed, what's her name? Tell her how much you love her. Cause I will.
Bailey (to Reed and Lexie): And doctors? If I find out that either one of you has said a word about this to anyone, I will make sure that you are the ones that require emergency surgery.
Reed: Dr. Bailey? Do you mind if I scrub in on the Chief's ileostomy? Bailey: Yes, I do mind. That man is old enough to be your father. Lexie: Dr. Bailey, have you seen the Chief? Bailey: No. Uh-uh. You don't need to be seeing the Chief, either one of you.
Meredith: You know, there was a moment, for like 5 seconds, when hit-by-a-bus guy wasn't George and Izzie had just come through surgery, and you and I had just done our post-it. Derek: Mmhmm. Meredith: Just like 5 seconds where everybody was happy. I keep closing my eyes trying to get back to that.
Meredith: How'd you find me here? Derek: The nurses love me. They're my spies. And they're pissed that you're desterilizing their equipment. Meredith: What else was I supposed to do? I haven't been able to get on a surgery all day. Before I left there were 5 people to compete with, now there 25.
Bailey: Okay, I understand that you're under a tremendous amount of pressure right now, and that you haven't been able to spend time at home, and that a man, in your position has certain... needs, and that, when a man is as powerful and as attractive as you are, those needs might easily be met by... Richard: Dr. Bailey? Bailey: Yes, sir? Richard: Are you hitting on me? Bailey: Your wife just showed up here asking me if you and I were having an affair. (Richard goes to say something) No, no! I don't want to know anything about anything. What you do with your business, is your business. And I was not hitting on you.
Bailey: Oh, Adele. Oh, I'm so sorry, I just sent the Chief into surgery. Do you want me to- Adele: What I want is for you to tell me the truth. Are you having an affair with my husband? Bailey: I... I am not having an affair with your husband! Adele: I saw the way you handled him just now. Bailey: Handled! (laughs) I did not... handle... there was no handling. We work together. Adele: You spend every waking moment together, you finish each others sentences, you read each others minds. You're more married to that man than I am. Callie: Yeah, but that's just because they're husband and work-wife. Bailey: Excuse me? Callie: The Chief's your work-husband and you're his work-wife. You look out for each other, you take care of each other, there's nothing wrong with it, it's like me and Sloan. Mark: Excuse me? Callie: Nobody's talking to you. He's my work-husband but he has a girlfriend, I have a girlfriend, but nothing going on between us. Mark: I mean, there was at one point... Callie: You're not helping. Bailey: Neither one of you are helping. Adele, I promise you there is nothing going on. Adele: Something is going on because he hasn't been in his bed all week. Bailey: What? Mark: Really? Adele: The last time he acted like this, disappearing, sleeping at the hospital every night, he was with Ellis Grey. He may not be having an affair with you- Bailey: He's not, I promise you. I promise you, he's not. Adele (pause): Okay. But wife-wife to work-wife, someone in this hospital is sleeping with our husband.
Cristina: Chief. Bailey: Now is not the time, Yang. The Chief has an emergency surgery. Cristina: The Chief has an emergency cardio situation. The new attending doesn't even know how to put in a temporary pacemaker. Richard: Yang... Bailey: Hey, do not engage. (turns to Cristina) Did you or did you not ask this man for a new cardio attending? Cristina: Yes. But-- Bailey: And did he or did he not bring in attending after attending, none of whom seemed to please you, and all of whom you ran off? Cristina: That is not a fair assessment. Bailey: Dr. Yang, has it ever occured to you that you might be the problem? (Cristina is silent) Yeah, right. Now leave this man alone and go torture the new attending. Cristina: Sir... Richard: Yang, do as Bailey says.
Bailey: Chief! Richard (waking up): What've we got? Bailey: An emergency chole, a new cardio attending and your wife is here to see you. Richard: What? Bailey: You in trouble. Drink your latte.
Cristina (about Teddy): How long's she here for? Owen: The Chief offered her a limited contract to test the waters. Cristina: Look, I really apperciate the gift, really I do, but you need to take it back. Owen: Cristina... Cristina: Take it back and exchage it for a real Cardio God. Owen: Just give her a chance, I promise she's gonna surprise you.
Bailey: Everything alright? Adele: Richard didn't come home last night and he didn't call. Tell me he's not lying somewhere in a ditch, dead. Bailey: Okay, the last time I saw him was... last night, in his office, he was working on the budget. Adele: So, why didn't he answer his pager or his cell phone? And why doesn't anybody in this hospital know where the Chief of Surgery is? Lexie (walks up): Dr. Bailey, have you seen the Chief? One of his patients needs an emergency chole. Bailey: Okay, I'm on it. You go ahead and prep the patient for surgery. You get yourself a cup of coffe. Decaf. I will find the Chief.
Owen: Um, I know you think that I don't understand you. So, I got you a present. (they walk into an exam room) Cristina: You got me a cardiac trauma! Owen: I didn't just get you a cardiac trauma. I got you a cardio god, or goddess.
Izzie: I'm not going in there. Meredith: You need to let Alex know that you're okay. Izzie: I'm not going in there. Dr. Singer: Oh, yes, you're going in. So he got you pregnant, so what? Meredith: You're pregnant? Izzie: No. He thinks I'm 15 years old. Dr. Singer: You're gonna go into that school and you're gonna show those cheerleaders that you have nothing to be ashamed of. Those little bitches are poisoness.
Meredith (about Dr. Singer): he's wearing pajamas and an overcoat. What did you do? Sneak him out in the middle of the night? Izzie: No. Dr. Singer: Early this morning. Meredith: You kidnapped him? Izzie: Can you please just sneak him in to see Derek? Put him on his schedule? Please? Meredith: Izzie, you've been in Chehalis this whole time and the only reason you came back is to bring a confused, sickly man for Derek to look at? Izzie: Yes. (Mer hits her arm) Ow! Ow! Stop hitting me. Meredith: We were worried about you. I was worried about you!
Meredith (opening voiceover): Doctors live in a world of constant progress and forward motion. Stand still for a second, and you'll be left behind. But as hard as we try to move forward, the past always comes back to bite us in the ass. And as history shows us again and again, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
Cristina: Teddy Altman. I... I've never heard of you. Teddy: Cristina Yang? I-- I've never heard of you either. So I guess that makes us even.
Cristina: He's ready for an angioplasty. Teddy: All right. Talk me through the procedure. Cristina: Because you don't remember how? Teddy: No, that was actually a teaching moment.
Meredith: So how do you like your present? Cristina: Who? Private Benjamin over there? Owen said she would surprise me. Well, guess what? Surprise! She doesn't know how to do surgery. Alex: Leave her alone. It's her first day. Cristina: Why are you defending her? She went to state school. Alex: So did I. Cristina: Well, she's skinny and blonde. Alex: So's Mer. Cristina: Well, she's annoying. Alex: So are you.
Meredith (closing voiceover): Sometimes the past is something you just can't let go of. And sometimes the past is something we'll do anything to forget. And sometimes we learn something new about the past... that changes everything we know... about the present.
