  • Repetative and not amusing? If you're a true follower of the series, the one-hour-special season premiere was as brilliant as all the other episodes, but it still lacks something.

The game arguing, Derek being that jerk you can't stand, Chief helping Meredith, DR. Bailey being her usual dominant and fun self, and the best of the best, Mark Sloan; still dominating the show, at least that's what I think.

I however think the show has stopped opening upppossibilities for other characters. What's happening in the less-known doctors lives? I think it's time they brought in some fresh blood.

What do we now really? Maybe one of the new interns will be a brilliant character that we will follow.

    Overall, great episode.moreless
  • Hearts on Fire

It's good that all of the last season's issues that were left hanging had their closures. Is it sad though that MerDer lost Zola. But I think it's just not the fault of Merideth but here we go again Shepherd getting disappointed with Mer and the old storyline comes back... they're off again... sigh... when will it end?

The sink hole story was good. I like the honesty of the character of Hunt, his wanting to have a child but at the same time his acceptance of who Yang is. I like most is the relationship of Mer and Yang. They're best of friends and they continue to support each other.moreless

  • QUOTES (35)

    • Callie (about Sofia): We should let her sleep. She's ours and nobody is taking her away. She'll wake up in a half hour and we'll take her home for dinner.
Mark: Nah, we should wake her up.
      Arizona & Callie: Yeah.

    • Janet: A lot of questions came up today, about your relationship, your employment...
Derek: Well, she got her job back. That was a misunderstanding.
      Janet: She disappeared.
Derek: Well, that was a miscommunication.
Janet: And the part about you two living in seperate houses, that's miscommunication, too? Look, I get it. It's not easy bringing a child into a relationship, you're allowed to have some bumps in the road. But, this afternoon when it looked like you two had split up, your wife got fired, she lied to me and left with the baby. It set off some alarms. Now, I'm trying to dial them all back but it's not that easy to do. Once a system has been set in motion, there's protocol that needs to be followed once the agenecy believes there's questions about Meredith...
Derek: Janet. Meredith is the best mother a child could have. She loves Zola and she loves me, and if she has any flaws, it's that she loves people so much she will do anything for them.
Janet: Derek, please. I hear you. But no matter what I say social services still needs to re-evaulate the placement and when that happens, Zola can't be in your home. I'll give you a minute to say good-bye.

    • April: Maybe we should leave, too. I'm sure they don't want us sitting here staring at them.
Jackson: I don't know. I mean, they're trying to keep a family together, that can't be easy. It wouldn't hurt to stick around and make sure they're okay.
April: You see, this is why you're the Gunther. I have terrible leadership instincts.
Jackson: That doesn't make me a better leader. Better person maybe. (smirks)

    • Callie: They're not gonna find a better family than two doctors. It's gonna be fine.
Arizona: Anybody wanna go check on Sofia?
      Callie: Why?
Mark: Because when someone's talking about taking a baby away, you wanna see your baby.
Callie: You guy's, she's fine. (Arizona walks off)
Mark: I'm right behind you. (follows Arizona, Callie waits for a second then follows them)

    • Owen: Meredith says that you didn't do it yet.
Cristina: I didn't change my mind.
Owen: I know. I know. You don't change your mind. You'd cut off my leg for me, wouldn't you?
Cristina: Well, I wouldn't botch it like that guy did. I'd leave you a good stump so you can get a prosthesis.
Owen (laughs): Okay, okay. When's the appointment?
Cristina (looks at her watch): Now.
      Owen: Okay. Let's go.

    • Derek: I still don't understand what you possibly could've been thinking.
Meredith: They fired me. Janet basically told me that they were gonna take Zola away. I mean, possibly send her back to Malawi. You and me... I just needed some time. I just needed to hold her and look at her and just think about how everything, everything got so screwed up. You should take Zola. Janet has a problem with me, not with you and we need to do everything that we can to make sure they don't take her away and if that means that you have custody of her and I don't... then that's what we need to do.
Derek: You're not fired. Richard's gonna take the fall for you.
Meredith: What? He can't do that. I'm not gonna let him do that.
Derek: Yes, you will. If you wanna keep this baby you will let him protect you.

    • Alex: I'm sorry. I didn't mean for any of this to happen.
      Meredith: I know. I know.

    • Bailey: What did you do?!
Richard: I want you to shut the door and then I want you to sit down.
Bailey: You're throwing your whole career away for that damn girl.
Richard: This is not the end of my career.
Bailey: The FDA will never come anywhere near you again. That is the end of your ilet cell trial, not to mention anything else you might be cookin' up with--
Richard: Sit down! (Bailey sits down and crosses her arms over her chest, Richard hands her a folder) Open it and read the first page.
Bailey (grabs it from him and starts reading): 'The artifical pancreas the cure for diabetes...' How about 'the artifical panreas, a huge missed opportunity that you blew because you--
      Richard: Read the next line.
      Bailey: Priniciple investgor, Miranda Bail...
Richard: It's yours now. I have no pending trials with the FDA.

    • Teddy: And you don't have any pain in your abodmin?
      Henry: Nope.
Teddy: Really? Or are you just being stoic for me?
Henry: I'm a man in a gown. I can't pretend to be brave and strong.
Teddy: You can. I kinda lost it today. Dr. Webber kicked me out of the OR.
      Henry: Really?
Teddy: Okay, um, so, you know we both figured that since I was a doctor that I would be really calm while you're having your surgery? ... That might not be the case.
Henry: You're just a mess, like an ordinary wife would be.
      Teddy: Yeah, it's pathetic.
Henry: I think it's adorable. I have a chronic tumor condition, I'm a frequent flyer in the OR.
Teddy: And I'm gonna be a basket case every time.
      Henry: So sad.

    • Derek: She wasn't covering for you. What the hell are you doing?
Richard: I'm protecting your wife. What are you doing?
Derek: This is wrong and you know that.
Richard: What are you trying to do her? She was trying to save Adele. She was trying to save me. At what point are you going to stop punishing her for that?

    • Cristina: Get up.
Alex: No. I'm under twenty-four hour observation because you almost killed me.
Cristina: I revealed an arthemia that you didn't even know you had. I probably saved your life. I'll run an EKG on you later, just get up.
Alex: You're supposed to have my back. I made a mistake, alright? I was drunk, I was pissed off.
Cristina: Oh, for the love of--
Alex: I screwed up. You screw up all the time. I don't have anybody. You guys are all I have. You have to forgive me.
Cristina: Fine. Whatever, forgiven! Now just get up outta the damn bed.

    • Richard: It's time to place the device.
Bailey: What do you want me to do?
      Richard: Place the device.
Bailey: Sir, is there anything that you want to tell me?
      Richard: Don't screw it up.
Bailey: A surgeon during the early stages of human tries on his experimental procedure never hands over the reins to someone else, ever. Unless something is wrong. Altman said this was weird, I just thought she was being a wife.
      Richard: Bailey.
Bailey: Are you drinkin' again? Ah. That would explain a lot!
Richard: Yes, it would. God, I wish it was that simple. Pick up those forceps, Dr. Bailey.

    • April: I don't wanna mess this up like I did everything else.
Jackson: What? You were great in the OR.
April: I wasn't the Gunther. I was his super-duper assistant. Are they gonna fire me as chief resident?
Jackson: No. It was your first day, they'll just make you do it again.

    • Owen: Cristina, do you wanna sit and talk for a minute?
Cristina: I do. I really very much do but I have to go do something now and it can't wait. Please... Please believe that I wanna talk to you and that I'm not blowing you off because I'm a terrible person or that I don't care about you. None of that is true.

    • Meredith: I think I stole a baby.
Cristina: Okay, first of all, you didn't steal the baby, she's your baby. What you did is... You took her for a nap... in a very odd location and you failed to answer your phone. But y'know, many people find all the technology in our lives to be intrusive, so you're not the first person who didn't answer your phone or your pager. You know, all we have to do is- is find a reason why you were AWOL for an hour.
Meredith: Four... hours. (Cristina glares) Janet was gonna take the baby so I took off.
Cristina: Okay, okay. You know, people make mistakes. I mean, I almost killed Alex in the OR today, so we'll just figure it out.
      Meredith: How?
      Cristina: I don't know.
Meredith: No, how'd you almost kill Alex?
Cristina: With a cc of epi. (Meredith looks shocked) Ah, y'know, whatever. He'll be fine. Just uh-- stay here. I'll fix this.
Meredith: What are you gonna do?
      Cristina: I'm gonna fix it.

    • Teddy: How's Alex?
Cristina: He's should be fine. Apparentally he had underlying arthemia so the epi... (Teddy gives her a look) I was moving too fast and I made a mistake.
Teddy: 'Ya think? (Cristina gets paged and walks off)
Mark: Boy you've got a mean streak. I mean, you look like a nice girl but scratch the surface... (Teddy walks off, Mark looks to a nurse) Don't mess with the nice ones.

    • Bailey: Y'know, I've seen you open an abdomin before. Where as Dr. Grey--
Richard: I don't want an observer, I want an assist.
Bailey: Oh, okay. Is everything okay?
Richard: Well, this is a teaching hospital and you're not too old to learn.

    • Bailey: Who woulda thunk it?
      Teddy: Avery's the Gunther.
      Mark: What the hell happened?
Callie: Yang almost killed Karev and Avery's the Gunther.
Mark: Avery? Get out of here.
      Bailey: Hand to God.
Mark (loudly): Avery. Good job, son.
      Jackson: Thank you.
Mark: I'm right here if you need anything. My guy won. We're gonna be great together.

    • Alex ( after Cristina stabbed him with an epi needle): Don't touch me.
      Cristina: I'm not touching you.
      Alex: Don't touch my gurney.

    • Alex (to Cristina after she stabbed him with an epi needle): You crazy bitch, you almost killed me!

    • Mark: It looks like Yang's the Gunther.
      Bailey: Yep, no surprise.
      Teddy: What's that mean?
Mark: It means she took over while everyone else is standing around looking like idiots doing whatever she says. I mean, look at Avery, useless.
Arizona (hands Mark money): I gotta go. Kepner? What was I thinking?
Teddy: No, no. This is the opposite of what she should be doing. I'm trying to teach her some humility and she's running the OR in a massive trauma.
Bailey: What can you do? Some people are race horses, she's a race horse. (Cristina accidentally stabs Alex with an epi needle)
      Teddy: Race horse?
      Bailey: My bad.

    • Bailey: I'm watching Henry's surgery today.
      Teddy: Why?
Bailey: Because the Chief loves an audience.
Teddy: Not because he's worried that something's wrong and he wants you there to help?
Bailey: I don't think so. Have his accuchecks been bad?
Teddy: No, but he wasn't supposed to be in surgery for another two weeks and then this morning he calls Henry up and has him race into the hospital.
Bailey: He's getting batty in his old age.
Teddy: Oh, well, that's great because he's cutting open my husband today.
Bailey: I'll be standing there, contemplating my mortality. If the batty acts up, I'll lend a hand.
      Teddy: Something is not right.
Bailey: Y'know what you sound like? A wife.

    • Owen: Everything alright?
Derek: Uh, Meredith disappeared with Zola.
Owen: What do you mean she disappeared? (Derek sighs) She had a rough day, she probably just went out for a walk. Derek there are a hundred possible explanations, don't assume the worst.
Derek: Do you know why I do that? Because lately the level of insanity in my wife's behavior defies imagination.
Owen: I know, but sometimes even with Cristina, sometimes they surprise us.

    • Teddy: I love you so much and you have made me so happy. I mean like, really, really happy for the first time in my life I think.
      Henry: Are you saying good-bye?
      Teddy: No, no, no.
Henry: Because you keep telling me that this is a simple procedure.
Teddy: It is. It is. It'll um... It'll be fine.
Henry: Yeah but that sounded like an 'if I never see you again, remember that I love you'.
      Richard: It did.
      Teddy: I-I should go.
      Richard: I think that's a good idea.

    • (Arizona and Mark are in the gallery watching the Gunter)
Mark (about Callie): She got the crossword down there?
Arizona: Soduku. You ever try it?
Mark: It bores the crap outta me.
Arizona: Amen. Who do you think the Gunther is?
      Mark: What do you mean?
Arizona: This is your first one? Hmm. The name Gunther comes from the doctor, not the patient. One of the residents always kinda emerges as a leader when they do this, the first time it was this little quiet guy named Gunther and everybody thought he was gonna flame out of the program but it turns out he was the Alpha dog.
Mark: Great. Well, I know it won't be Avery. He doesn't have the balls.
Arizona: Ah, Karev's got the balls but everyone hates him so I don't really see them following his lead.
      Mark: Bound to be Yang.
Arizona: Mmm. I don't know, Kepner's kinda a dark horse these days.
Mark: You feel good about that position, huh? You willing to back that up?
Arizona (laughs): WHat? Like fifty bucks? (Mark nods) Bring it.

    • Richard: Dr. Bailey.
Bailey: I wanted to keep an eye on the Gunther, an intern just--
Richard: I need 'ya now. (opens door to research lab) You need to spend some time with the mice.
Bailey: This is why I left my Gunther?
Richard: Once you put a couple of devices in the mice, putting one in a human is a breeze. All that space.
Bailey: Sir, I already have a full schedule which I had to take a part so I could watch you put this thing in a person this afternoon.
      Richard: Henry. Altman's husband.
Bailey: Put on a mask, Dr. Bailey. Even with mice you need a sterile field.
Richard (picks up a mouse): This is mouse T, he's skinny, so it won't be easy. (Bailey looks annoyed) Get yourself some gloves.

    • Alex: Do you listen to anyone else, ever?
Cristina: All the time, just not you.
      Jackson: Or me, apparentally.

    • Derek: Yang, where's Meredith?
Cristina: I don't know, they fired her. Maybe she's putting anthrax in Karev's locker.

    • Meredith (opening voiceover): When my mother left my father, she didn't tell him she was leaving and taking me with her until wed landed to the other side of the country. In those days, it was called family troubles. Today it'd be called kidnapping.

    • Meredith (closing voiceover): You think that true love is the only thing that can crush your heart; that will take your life and light it up or destroy it. Then you become a mother.

    • Bailey: She was trapped under a car, her leg was amputated in a pit of dirt, her abdomen is rigid, her pelvis is possibly crushed and you will work together to access her injuries and repair them.
      April: Oh ,in the OR?
Bailey: No, at the Jiffy Lube. Yes, in the OR. Now, Dr. Torres will supervise your work, if you're killing her, she will step in. Otherwise, you're on your own. Don't screw this up, like you've screwed up everything else lately.

    • Owen: Excuse me.
      Bailey: Oh, no, nope.
Owen: What do you mean? That's my patient.
      Callie: We're doing a Gunther.
Owen: What the hell's a Gunther?
Callie: It's like a team building exercise.
Bailey: See, the hospital does it when the residents aren't working well together it seems to help.
Callie: If the patient doesn't die. One time the patient died and then it didn't help. (Bailey glares at her)
Owen: Okay, so the prep her and then...
Callie: Oh, no, attednings. Just the bunnies.
      Owen: In the OR?
Bailey: Yes in the OR. Why does nobody seem to get that part?
Owen: No, no. Not this patient. I just pulled her out of a hole in the ground that almost ate her alive and her husband had to cut off her leg.
Bailey: Dr. Torres will be there to step in the way.
      Owen: Bailey.
      Bailey: They can handle this.
      Owen: I said no.
Bailey: Uh uh. The chief said yes!

    • April: Okay, look, what I think we need to do is take a moment--
Jackson: April, you're chief resident, not chief of surgery.
Alex: Did somebody call the OR?
Cristina: No. Because she needs a CT to assess her cardiac injuries.
      Alex: What did I say--
Cristina: Nobody gives a crap about what you have to say! (the patient's monitor starts beeping)
Alex: Still wanna take her to radiology? Maybe wait in line a while until the machine is free?
Jackson: Is somebody gonna call the OR?
Bailey (to Owen): They're still finding their groove.

    • Teddy: Cristina. What are you doing?
      Cristina: Oh, Bailey paged 911.
Teddy: Well, what happened to the chest tube?
Cristina: An intern's doing it, cause it's intern's work. Which I love. I-I'm loving the back to the basics thing, it's so valuable, but uh, 911 so...
      Henry (walks up): Hey.
Cristina: Oh, and you have to go, so no worries. We'll talk later.

    • Janet: Could you page Dr. Shepherd again, please?
Nurse: I paged him two minutes ago.
Janet: It's really very important that I speak with him right away.
Nurse: He's a brain surgeon. Everyone looking for him thinks it's really very important.
