Meredith: What the hell were you thinking? She's a virgin. Why would you do that? Alex: I know. I know. Meredith: If you needed it that bad, Alex, you should've gone back to Vegas. There's a whole industry there. Alex: I didn't go to Vegas. I went to Iowa. Meredith: You went to Iowa? Alex: I went home. My brother... Remember, Aaron? Meredith: Yeah. Alex: The doctor's said... he got diagnosed schizophrenic, just like my mom. You know how they figured it out? He tried to kill our little sister, she's 16. She's a kid. And her brother tried to kill her. And my mom didn't do anything because she's off her meds, and... Anyway, I was in Iowa. That's where I went, to my brother's commitment hearing, I had to commit him. Whatever. Meredith: Well, it's good that you were there. Alex: I wasn't there. I wasn't. I showed up, I help my sister's hand in the hospital for like 10 minutes, I shoved some pills down my mom's throat, I signed my brother into a nut house, then I got the hell outta there as fast as I could. I wasn't there. I'm the ass who can't stand to be there.
Jackson: You think it was hard for Yang? To quit? To just walk away? Lexie: Oh, don't be stupid, you're not quiting. Besides, you might have just gotten yourself fired, or arrested. Probably both. Jackson: Yeah, well, April is the only friend I have left here, so. Lexie: Don't be stupid.
Bailey: Why do we so many post-op fistulas after pancreas surgeries? I mean, your operation is flawless. It doesn't matter. We still see fistulas in what? 20 percent of patients? I- I think there's a way to bring that number down. I just gotta find it. Richard: Miranda... Bailey: I needed a win, sir. I've got a string of big losses and I could use a win, that's all. Yang... Yang was the one I didn't have to worry about. Richard: I know. I know. Look into the pancreatectmy patients, figure it out and then let me know how I can help. Bailey: Uh, can I use Avery? He actually gave me the idea. He was great today. Richard: That's good to know. You know, Alex Karev saved a baby's life with a ping pong ball? Bailey: A ping pong ball? Richard: Yes, he did. Bailey: Hmm. Alex Karev.
Derek: If you're asking my opinion, I think you should. I think you absolutley have to. You should keep and refinish the original floors. Cristina: Why do I have to? I mean... I mean you guys did like what, bamboo or something? Derek: We're building our house from stracth we can put down whatever we want. You have original oak floors. Cristina: Yeah, but what I don't like oak? What if I hate oak? Derek: Doesn't matter, you have to do it. The building's histroic.
Callie: Can I move in with you? Mark: That might be the rebound talking. Callie (laughs): Not like that. Just until I can get rid of the sub-lender in my place. I'm starting from scratch and I don't (sighs) I don't wanna do it alone. Can't we be alone together? Isn't it easier to be single in pairs? Mark: This a riddle? Callie: No, I'm drunk. Come on, can I? Mark: Sure. Callie: Yay! Mark: Your hair is hot. Callie: Right? (laughs)
Mark: Welcome! Wine's on the table, beer's in the fridge. Owen: I have a fridge? Mark: And since you actually live here, I'll hand over the hosting duties to you. Meredith: Where's Cristina? Mark: I haven't seen her. Which is sorta rude.
April: Are you okay? I'm sorry. I-I tried to find you. He is awful. He tried to take all the credit. Alex: Is the kid okay? Is it gonna work? April: Yeah, yeah, of course it's gonna work. It's brilliant. I- I'm gonna talk to the chief. You know, because it is so unfair, you did everything single thing right today. I mean, you covered that attending's ass, and you got... you got crapped on every step of the way. The chief should know that. (Alex shrugs) No, no, you're so... What you did today... was so great. I mean, you don't deserve this. I wanted you to know that somebody knows that, that I know that.
Cristina: We are awesome. I can't believe we did all of this. Callie: Uh, I did all of this. You opened one bottle of wine. Could you find where the napkins are please? (Derek walks in) Damnit. Not ready! Derek: Hi. Cristina: Hey, if you're here for the party, you're like way too early. Derek: I'm not here for the party. Cristina: Are you here to tell me to come back? Derek: No. But a bunch of other people are coming to do that. Cristina: Oh, God.
Teddy: Alright, I need you to stop making this my fault. I tried everything I could for, Yang. I encouraged her into the OR, I kept her out of the OR. I don't know what else I could've done differently. Yang was my student, don't you think that I wanted to help her? Derek: I have no doubt that, that was what you wanted to do. Teddy: But you're saying I failed? Derek: I'm saying that we all failed and now it's time to back off. Owen: No, Shepherd, you need to back off. She's my wife. And I'm not gonna give up on her yet. Meredith: Alright, it's clear we all have the same goal. We want her back. Derek: I'm sorry. I have a personal stake in this, too. I would not be standing here if it wasn't for her. Meredith: But you're asking us to do nothing and we can't do that. I can't do that.
Callie (getting her hair cut): I want it sort of like badass, a little dangerous, a little unpredictible. Hairdresser: You bring a picture? Callie: Mmm. It's more of a feeling. Cristina (eating yogurt, looking at people in the mall): What do they do all day? The mall people. Look at them, so slowly, they all mosey. Look. Callie: Yeah, I can't turn my head. Cristina: Do they just eat things and buy things and complain about their break-ups? Hairdresser: Yes. Cristina: Fantastic. (points) Look at that lady. She's just gonna eat that pretzel. That's all she's gonna do. Callie: So, what? You're just gonna become a mall person? Shop and eat? Cristina: This yogurt's pretty good. Callie: I'm serious. Cristina: I'm getting a pretzel.
Alex: I think I found a solution for Lisa Collin's liver. Stark: What is that? A ping pong ball? Alex: It's the perfect shape to keep the liver from compressing her blood vessels. It's made of celloid, not plastic, so it won't break down like a sponge will, it's gas sterilized so there's little risk of infection. I mean, you could leave it in there forever. Her liver will just grow around it. I mean, I think it's a... (notices Stark's look) You think it won't work? Stark: No, I was thinking I left you to do my post-ops and here I find you playing with balls. I don't know, Karev. I might have to talk to your Chief about you.
Derek: Cristina's having a party. Cristina Yang. Meredith: Yeah, I know, but... I'm gonna go. We're all go gonna go and talk to her. You should go, too. I mean, you quit once. You walked away and came back, so maybe you have something to say that could help. Derek: No. Meredith: No? Derek: You remember when you came out to talk to me about going back? Do you remember when I hit your engagement ring with a baseball bat? Meredith (sarcastic): Oh, that was a great day. Derek: She's already lashing out. Don't go and try and confront her. (Teddy and Owen walk in) No intervention of Cristina Yang, you hear me? It's a bad idea.
Lexie (after Alex shoots her with a ping-pong ball): Ow! Since when is it okay to shoot people in this hospital? Jackson: Now Bailey's given up on me, too. April: You're on her service. Why are you still freaking out? Jackson: No, Bailey's in surgery she trusts me to watch her post-op drip fluid into a bag every ten minutes. (Alex shoots him with a ping pong ball) Ow! Lexie (to Alex): Inappropiate. (to Jackson) Okay, you should relax, you get an easy day, you take it. Shepherd didn't need me, so I took a nap in the research library. (Alex shoots her again) Gimme. Give it to me. (takes the ping pong gun from him and shoots him with a ping pong ball) Alex: Jerkface. April: He's having a rough day. New Robbins is no Robbins. Meredith (walks up): Check this out, armed escort to get a yogurt. Lexie: Okay, who is it? Is it Bono? April: It's totally Bono. It's all over the hospital. Meredith: It's not Bono. Lexie: Are you going to Cristina's tonight? Meredith: I don't know. (Lexie shoots her with a ping pong ball) Okay, not okay! Put it away. Lexie (laughs): Okay, that's addicting. Meredith: Put it away before my guy wrestles you to the ground.
(Shopping at a home furinature store) Callie: Um, how can you not talk to Meredith about this? She's your best friend. Cristina: Ooh, I love that lamp. Callie: You can't just cut yourself off from a person, pretend your whole relationship never happened. I mean, you can, but it makes you a heartless, souless monster. Who I thought I knew but I really didn't. Cristina: With wheels on her shoes. Callie: Ugh! God. How was I okay with that? I used to be a lot cooler than that. I was a lot cooler when I was single. Cristina: You were hardly ever single. Callie (laughs): I know. I know. Ah, I'm actually excited to spend time on my own. (sees herself in a mirror) Okay, I thought we were going to a hair salon. Cristina: Next. We're doing me now. Salesman (walks up): Can I help you find something? Cristina: Yes. I will take that. Salesman: That sofa? Cristina: That room. All of it. I'll take it. Uh, you do same day delievery, right? (Salesman nods) Great.
Bailey: Okay, you're not scrubbing in. Jackson: I'm not...? Bailey: No, watch Mrs. Cortez. If the fluid in her drain changes color, you page me. If her fever goes up one digit, you page me. Jackson: Because the fever could be... Bailey: An absess, an early sign of sepsis, phneumona, a number of nasty things. Remember your first rule of residency. Eat when you can, sleep when you can... Jackson & Bailey: ... and don't screw with the pancreas. Bailey (walks off, mutters): So much for my easy day.
Meredith: The last thing that Cristina wants is to talk to me. We just have to give her some space. Owen: We don't have time to give her space. She'll be locked out of this program, and I do not believe that is what she wants. I mean, you think that's what she wants? (Mer is silent) I'm asking you, Grey.
Teddy (looking at Cristina's text): Hey, Hunt, you're throwing a house warming party tonight? Owen: I am? Teddy (shows him the text): Well, your wife is. That's a good sign, right? Meredith: It's a weird sign. Teddy: Well, maybe it's an opportunity. I mean, maybe I could talk to her. Owen: Or, better yet, maybe you could, Grey. Teddy: Well, we all could. I mean, it's gonna be hard for her to walk out of room at her own party.
(Cristina is cutting Callie's hair) Callie: How's it going? Can I see? Cristina: Fantastic. Shut up. Callie: Hey, you know what you need to get this place done? You need to throw a house-warming party. Put a little-- Cristina: Oh, my God, we should totally throw a house-warming party! (stops cutting Callie's hair and rushes to get her phone) Oh my, God! Callie (looks at her hair) Oh, my God, no! Cristina: Tonight. I'll text everyone! Callie: No! Cristina: Yes! I have several credit cards and nothing to do. Callie: This is not what I wanted! I look-- I-I look injured! I mean, do you even cut hair?! Cristina: I need furnature. Callie: Look at my hair! Cristina: Yeah, I sorta can't believe you let me do that. Callie: Cristina! Cristina: It's okay. We'll go to the mall. You might want a hat.
Lexie: Okay, but I don't understand. I'm on your service. Derek: I don't need you. The crainotomy's been cancelled. I don't have anything for the rest of the day. Lexie: But what am I supposed to do now? Derek: Go study. Lexie: Study what? Derek: I don't care, Lexie. Go somewhere else. (closes the door and pins Meredith to it and kisses her) Meredith: I don't have time for this. Derek: We have to make time for this. (kisses her) Meredith: Should I call her?
Security Guard: I'm sorry ma'am, I can't admit you. Bailey: Well, you don't need to admit me. I'll just walk in there myself, I do it all the time. (goes to walk in, he holds his hand up to stop her) Uh, Chief Webber paged me in there. Security Guard: I'm sorry, ma'am. Bailey: Well, who's in there? Jackson: Is it the President? Vice President? Is it Bono? Bailey (gives him a look): Bono? Richard (comes out of the VIP wing): Bailey, can you take my patient's today? I got a situation in here. Bailey: Oh, of course, sir. Richard: Louise Cortez is a readmit after surgery for chronic pancreatitis. CT showed a pancreatic fistula and she spiked a fever this morning. Bailey: Right. (Richard turns to leave) Uh, sir you put in a drain? Richard: Yes, just keep a close eye. (turns to leave again) Bailey: Sir? Is it Bono?
Stark: So, you must be Dr. Karev. You missed my rounds today. Alex: Uh, sorry. I had car trouble. Stark: Ah, well, there's a classic. So, what you're here just kinda yell at my patients and... Alex: I'm sorry. Look, uh, Dr. Stark, I'm feeling very sick today so I think that since you know, you have Kepner... Stark: Well, let's see here. No fever, you don't seem to be vomiting, you retaining control of your bowels? April: Ew. Alex: Yes. Stark: Well, since hangovers are not contagous I'd say you're working.
Cristina: What're you doing here? Callie: Ah, I'm not back until next week. Cristina: Oh, so it's true? You guys broke up? She's in Africa? Callie: Okay, Sloan told me that you quit. (Cristina puts her ear bud back in her ear and starts dancing again) Hey! What're you doing? Cristina (dancing): Just go away. Callie: Okay, this is disturbing! Stop! Cristina (turns off her iPod): Look, I was unpacking but then I didn't enjoy it. What're you doing? Callie: What do you mean? Cristina: You don't have a job to go to. You don't have a girlfriend telling you have to go to Africa. You're completely free. You can do whatever you want. The world is your oyster. Make lemonade. (starts opening boxes) Callie: I'm trying. I was gonna get my hair cut today and make like a radical change. Then I thought 'hmm', maybe you shouldn't do radical things right after a blonde woman has ripped your heart out of your chest and stomped on it. What are you -- (Cristina cuts off a handful of Callie's hair) Oh, my God! What're you doing?! (Cristina laughs) Are you insane? Cristina: Let's make lemonade.
April: He thinks no one wants to work with him. Lexie: Are they saying that or are you saying that? Jackson: Who are you with again? April: Karev. Uh... I mean, Stark. Jackson: No, you meant Karev. And, you don't wanna go there. April: You don't know where I'm going. Lexie: He's right. You don't wanna go there. April: I'm-- I'm not going anywhere. Lexie: He's not the guy for you, okay? Trust me. And don't be paranoid, trust me on that, too. (walks off, Jackson watches her go) April: Ooh, but it's okay for you to go there. Jackson: I'm a guy. I live there.
Doctor: Why did Dr. Yang opt to use an intraortic ballon pump over an RVAD? Teddy: I.. Um, I can't answer for Dr. Yang. Doctor: Well, why isn't she here? Teddy: She um... She quit. She left the program. Mark: I'm sorry, what? She what? Teddy: Dr. Yang cleared the ballon pump with Dr. McQueen who agreed that it was the best-- Mark: Go back. Go back. Yang quit the program? Derek: Yeah. Where have you been? Mark: Well, it's the first I heard of it. (turns to Owen) Hunt what the hell happened? Owen: She told the chief she quit. Mark: Richard? (Richard holds up his hand, he's on the phone) Teddy: If we could just finish the presentation... Derek: I have a question. Can you tell us about your decision to put Dr. Yang in charge of this patient? Teddy: I'm sorry? Mark: But she didn't quit-quit, right? (turns to look at Meredith) Grey. You're joined at the hip. What'd she say? Meredith: Uh, she hasn't spoken to me about it. (everyone is looking at her for an answer) Stop looking at me. Look up there. Mark: Does Torres know anything about this? I'm callin' Torres. (walks out) Teddy: Look, please... Derek: I guess what I'm asking is why did you choose to put Dr. Yang under so much pressure that day? Teddy: I didn't, I intended the opposite. I have her a simple pre-op check list on a stable patient. Derek: Stable patient? The patient almost died twice. Teddy: I couldn't have seen that coming. I'm sorry, is this a patient presentation or a post-mortum on Dr. Yang? Derek: Well, you saved the patient.
Meredith: You smell like you're sweating booze, where have you been? Jackson: I want the weekend you had. Alex: Well, what happens in Vegas, you know? Hey, who's Stark? I'm supposed to be on Stark's service today. April: Oh, me, too. He's the new peds attending. Since Robbins left. Alex: Crap. I can't handle a bunch of sick kids today, I can't do it.
Meredith (closing voiceover): Every pressurized system needs a relief valve. There has to be a way to reduce the stress, the tension, before it becomes too much to bare. There has to be a way to find relief because if the pressure doesn't find a way out, it will make one. It will explode. It's the pressure we put on ourselves that's the hardest to bare. The pressure to be better then we already are. The pressure to be better than we think we can be. It never ever lets up. It just builds and builds and builds.
Meredith (opening voiceover): The human body is a highly pressurized system. The blood pressure measures the force of blood pulsating through the arteries. It's important to keep this pressure regulated. Low or inadequate pressure can cause weakness or failure. It's when the pressure gets too high that problems really occur. If the pressure continues to increase, a closer examination is called for. Because it's the best indicator that something is going terribly wrong.
