Grey's Anatomy

Derek is all set to take over as Chief of Surgery. He gives a speech to begin his new position. The board tells Richard that he either needs to go to rehab or he'll loose his license to practice medicine. He is already in a sticky situation because a patient wakes up midway through surgery.

Miranda is furious at the anesthesiologist who messed up the surgery. Meredith works on the patient because she freaks out when Miranda works on her. It turns out that there was something different about the patient's genes that caused her to wake up early and it was not the anesthesiologist's fault. Derek and Richard have a very public argument about whether or not Richard should go to rehab. The patient needs another surgery that is pretty invasive. Meredith is not 100% confident that she can handle it. Miranda and the anesthesiologist hit it off. Miranda talks to Richard about going to rehab.

Mark still won't talk to Lexie. She goes to Callie for advice and finds out that Mark had slept with Addison when he was down in LA. Owen thinks Cristina is not opening up to him.

A kid comes in with stomach pains but his dad thinks he's faking it. Arizona and Alex want to explore more to see what is going on but his dad refuses. Alex convinces his Dad to let them explore, but they don't find what they're looking for. When they are explaining this, the kid becomes unstable and Alex impulsively cuts him open and they rush him into the OR. They page Cristina, who was in the middle of hooking up with Owen. He asks her to stay, and she does, but is not happy to find out about the surgery she missed out on. Arizona is impressed with Alex's ease working in pediatrics, which is a potential new fit for him.
