Grey's Anatomy

Season 6 Episode 4

Tainted Obligation

Aired Thursday 8:00 PM Oct 08, 2009 on ABC

Episode Recap

Meredith's father Thatcher Grey returns to the show. He stumbles in and vomits blood all over her shoes. She thinks it's because he's drunk but really it's because he needs a new liver. However, in order to qualify for one, you must be sober for a year and he was only at his 90 day mark.

Lexie automatically offers her liver up but when it's discovered she's not a match she snoops into Meredith's file to find out if she was in fact a match. Lo and behold, she is a possible donor. Lexie begs for her to save Thatcher's life. Her argument was questionable….even though he was a bad father to Meredith, he was a fabulous one to her and she would be devastated without him.

Long story short, Meredith donates part of her liver for Lexie not Thatcher.

Meanwhile, Alex is tiring of life in the camper, after an encounter with a bear as well as a tick on his neck, he pushes Izzie to move back to civilization but realizes she's had a rough year so he lets things slide.

And what would an episode of Grey's be without a quirky patient. This one included an 82 year old man with erectile dysfunction who wants a penis implant. Of course, he becomes the butt of many jokes at the hospital but Mark feels for the guy when he notices how dismissive and unsupportive his family is being. He lectures the family and operates on the old man without a hitch. Ha!
