Episode Summary

EDIT
After the family car goes missing one night, the Finnertys find themselves at an impasse: Sean is in mourning over the loss, while Claudia hopes to gain from a slightly inflated insurance claim. But when the battered remains of the car are towed to the house a few days later, it becomes clear that Lily has been covering her tracks about an ill-fated joyride -- and the reason why her parents have to buy the missing parts from Eddie's maniacal mechanic.moreless

A very adventurous episode of Grounded for Life and it was just a great way to open up the new season. It immediately brings you in with the Finnerty's car being stolen. When I first watched this, the final result was completely unexpected which is what I love about this show so much. You never know when the full story is told, and for the most part, this episode was absolutely hysterical.

Danny Masterson's guest spot was outstanding and he was significantly funny here, his interactions with the Finnerty family shined and it's definitely one of the best guest spots that I've seen in a while. When Eddie got involved in Lilly & Brad's tryst, I was hooked. You love to hate Eddie with his shenanigans especially in the very end when he got some of Sean's money. We also got some great Lilly & Brad interactions, but the reason I loved this episode so much was the way it tied in with Lilly & Brad stealing the car. Just so much hysterical one liners and a genius story. Definitely Grounded at it's best.moreless

Danny Masterson was hilarious as Vince. Lily manipulating Brad into taking the car out was too funny! Then Eddie and Claudia manipulated Sean into lying to the insurance company. For once, Sean actually gave in to one of Eddie's crazy ideas. It looks like "Grounded" won't be one of those shows that declines after the first season. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Sean says its 3 years until Lily can be tried as an adult, but 16 year olds can be tried as adults, so they really only have one more year.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Brad: The back seat is gone.
Lily: No way. We were only gone for five minutes.
Eddie: (sighs) Somebody must have salvaged it.
Vince: Hey. I'm not responsible for people's personal property. It says so on the thing you're gonna sign.
Brad: We're not gonna sign that.
Vince: Oh, you're gonna sign it, pretty boy. You're gonna sign it.

    • Vince: Here's your mirror.
Lily: What? This mirror is huge.
Vince: Actually, it's smaller than it appears.

    • Walt: We're just gonna go have a little sit-down with your old man.
Brad: He's gonna kick my ass!
Walt: That salad shooter? He doesn't have the stones.
Brad: I don't know what that means.
Walt: I'll explain it to you on the way out.

    • Lily: This is why I don't tell you things, cuz you over react!
Sean: I am not over reacting. The appropriate reaction would be to swing you around by your hair.

    • Sean: Only 3 more years...
Claudia: Til she goes away to college?
Sean: No. Until she can be tried as an adult.

    • (After finding out Brad took the car)
Jimmy: He's the last person I'd suspect!
      Claudia: Yeah, he's so nice!
Henry: Plus, he's such a doofus.

  • NOTES (5)

    • Tag scene: Brad asks Lily to a dance.

    • Although this originally aired as a second season episode, it's included on the first season DVD set, as it was originally shot during season one.

    • Guest star Danny Masterson is the star of Carsey-Werner-Mandabach's (the company that makes "Grounded") other series, "That '70s Show." Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Wilmer Valderrama were also guest stars.

    • This is one of several unaired episodes leftover from the first season. FOX held onto several episodes (and the series "The Tick") in preparation for a possible actors strike which never materialized.

    • Originally scheduled to premiere on September 19th, but like many shows, Baby You Can't Drive My Car was pushed back another week after the terrorist Attack on America. As a result of the September 11th Attacks, two episodes slated to be produced for this season were scrapped for budget reasons.
