Episode Summary

Sean's old friend Dave is in town, a children's performer who goes under the name "J.J. Bodybuddy". He lets Dave stay at his house...but it isn't entirely altruistic. He's promised the school that he can get J.J. Bodybuddy to do a show for the kids. The problem is, Dave--a recovered alcoholic who hasn't touched the stuff in ten years--gets too drunk to do the gig, and Sean has to put on the Bodybuddy leotard hismelf. Meanwhile, Lily is jealous of the new baby, and is letting her feelings be known vociferously.moreless

  • Annoying in some ways.

Seems like this plot has been reused for a while now. Sean trying to go through with it for Sister Helen even though in the end he always screws up or gets himself in to some kid of trouble. And Lilly moving to Japan just cause the baby was talking up some room? I just don't get that at all. The only plot that I mostly get & is way better is Jimmy finding a girl that is pretty & is not a jerk or doesn't care is Jimmy did something bad or embarrassing. So yeah just an okay episode, didn't really tie things up in the end.moreless

  • NOTES (1)

    • I'm Looking Through You: Title

The title of this episode is derived from the song of the same name by The Beatles

    • J.J. Bodybuddy: Appearance

"J.J. Bodybuddy" is a parody on Slim Goodbody, a performer who does a series of educational programs, videos, and live shows for children about good health habits--right down to the skin-tight pink organ-decorated leotard Goodbody wears.

    • Eddie: Dave's not here, man!

An oblique reference to a famous routine by Cheech and Chong about a couple of drug dealers. Dave (Cheech Marin) stands outside the door, marijuana in hand, and demands to be let in, but the guy on the other side of the door (Tommy Chong) densely keeps repeating Dave isn't there.
