    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • The song Jason and Mike sing before they are interviewed by the news crew is "Dancing in the Dark" from Bruce Springsteen's album Born in the U.S.A..

    • QUOTES (7)

      • (Mike skates into the kitchen)
Maggie: When do they outgrow skateboards?
Jason: When you buy them a Camaro.

      • Maggie: Jason, our son knows people named Cheech?
Jason: Aw, Maggie, you can't judge somebody on the basis of a name. Anyway, Mike, you were saying?
Mike: Yeah, well, Cheech's parole officer didn't think it'd be such a good idea for him to be scalping tickets so close to the trial.

      • (sees Maggie with mousetraps)
        Jason: Do we have mice?
Maggie: Yup. And if I'm not back in 24 hours... (gives a passionate farewell kiss) a cat.

      • (Jason gets Springsteen tickets)
Mike: I can't believe it! How did you get 'em?
Jason: Well, Mike, your mom and I made a big decision. We could either afford to send you to college or we could get those tickets.

      • Carol: So, did you get tickets?
Mike: Did I get tickets? Carol, of course I got tickets.
        Carol: To Springsteen?
        Mike: No. The Ice Capades!

      • (Maggie prepares mousetraps)
Carol: Well, Mom, I mean they're cute, harmless little creatures.
Maggie: Carol, these are the same guys who carried the plague all through Europe during the 10th century and killed millions of people.
Carol: That was a thousand years ago, Mom! How long are you going to hold a grudge?

      • (after Carol has gone upstairs, upset about the mice, and Mike, as well, about the Springsteen concert)
Maggie: Is there an irate children's convention upstairs?

    • NOTES (0)

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • Maggie says, "A mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do," complete with Western drawl and swagger, paraphrasing a popular misquote of John Wayne in the 1953 Western, Hondo. The real quote is, "A man oughta do what he thinks is right."

      • Mike's red baseball cap in his back pocket is a reference to Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. album cover.
