This is so exciting that I felt it deserved its own topic posting.

Guiding Light and As The World Turns both had contracts that were set to end this summer 2008, but they've both been renewed until September 2009. Guiding Light also has an option for renewal until Sep 2010.

I don't understand the "option for renewal" part. All shows are considered for renewal towards the end of their contract, but whatever, at least we know for sure our show will be with us for at least another year and a bit!!!

I love this topic so much I'm gonna sticky it for a while. Thanks for passing that on Jared!

I just wanted to add something.
After seeing Jared's original post I looked the info up on the net and found a ton of forums talking about the status of both GL and ATWT. I'm am so saddened by some of the things that I've read. People saying that they will no longer watch the show because Ellen Wheeler and David Kreizman are still around. Others calling those who stick with their soaps "stupid" for the simple fact that they won't desert them. It's just that sort of thing that has (as Shera once put it) made soaps a dying breed. If you love a show, ya stick with the show. Okay, so your favorite actor has left or they killed off your favorite character, don't give up. It's okay to voice your opinion that you want a better plot line or more character development, but when you tear down the show and step away you're saying that you don't believe the show is worth it any longer and we all know that's not true. And by all means, if you hate what's going on with your show, vent! Maybe the right person will hear you. But for goodness sakes, don't give up. When these 8 shows are gone (GL, ATWT, AMC, DAYS, GH, Y&R, OLTL, B&B) that's it. And all we will be left with is a bunch of crappy reality programs, Judge Whoever-it-is, and horrible, valueless talk shows.

I'm not giving up but this is a ghost of what it once was. I don't care if there are outlandish stories, so long as they don't venture into cheesy Days of Our Lives demonology (although Reva double did skirt the line if not cross it). I don't care if there is breaking up and what not. That seems common soap opera fodder. What I cannot stand is such bad, sloppy writing. I used to defend GL as "real" or as real as soap operas could get. I used to love Another World for that very reason and that got cancelled. Watched DOOL for years and am ASHAMED to say that I periodically watched passions for the idiocy of it...pure bile. In comparison, it just seemed sharper, wittier but I don't see that anymore. I'll watch but I'm almost thankful that my new gym routine starting in Sept will be at 4 instead of 3. I don't think I can stomach it anymore. Gus killed, Beth leaving, Kim leaving, Cassie storyline, the worse than teenager will they or won't they relationship of Bill and Lizzie, vomit. I'm not happy with one single couple or storyline on GL and, I beg to differ with the posts on certain actors on this show. Most, ahem Rafe, Ava, Daisy, Marina, Beth, Ashley, overact or underact and I barely buy what they're selling. It's a mess. I'm a firm supporter of the new film style but now EW needs to retool that writing department. It's a mess.

I hope so because Y&R's my Mom's show. However, this is the show I'm watching.
