  • Who didn't see this coming?

I watched from the early 90s and stop watching about 3-4 years ago. Certainly the acting talent was there and it's a shame that writers refused to up-play the positive for the instant gratification angle. We never thought that the Bauers would have been shoved on the back burner and then pushed nearly completely off the map. Does anyone remember the most recent Annie storyline where she drugged Josh into comming on to Cassie? We were all horrified! Yet these current writers thought it was fantastic to hook Cassie and Josh up a few years later. The problem is that the writers seemed to equate romance with random sexual attraction. The difference, for those who are confused, is that I may fantasized about Jason Statham but I LOVE my hubby. Reva may have had a "thing" for Richard but she LOVED Josh. Super couples shouldn't be equated with what ever the current status quo on marriage is. No one knows people like this in real life and they love the "happily ever after" when it comes to love. There are other ways to inflict drama other than divorce and talented writers would have utilized the history. Instant gratification works in short term stories (movies) but not on a show that is shown 5 days a week and shame on the writers for taking 5 decades and turning it into s hollow shell. I don't believe that soaps are a "dying art", I believe that writers have forgotten why these shows were great and tried to turn them into twisted, bed-hopping, Sex in the City-esque soft corn porn nightmares that seem to be popular but inevitably get cancelled after a few seasons. I must have missed the memo that says couples can endure.
  • I'm sure the talent is still there but appears we've forgotten where to look. The names are the same but that is all I recognize anymore.

Acting class 101 ?? Is this more interesting for the actors ?
The program is going off on so many tangents that I'm starting to feel it's a waste of time to tape for after work viewing. Comic book characters ? Skits, inprovization, interuptions in plotlines ? What are we looking for ?
The concept of the program is getting lost and it's
getting very hard to discern anything understandable from the plot or storyline. The characters and storylines are so fractured.
Could be why there seems to be an increasing number of
    cast departures... sadly.
This used to be one of my favorite with interesting characters... Not so much anymore... Mixed feelings about the wednesday "in-depth" episodes but can assure you that the "comic" book hero and/or the "old time" skits are definately not the direction to help.
Please... where is the writing "team"
Thanks for listening. Will watch for changes- then decide.
  • I have watched show since started. The story line between Liberty and her first cousin has me so out raged ! If they go any further this is incest....and we wonder why our youth today do the things that are so wrong. Where is the example ?

I can not believe your writers have become this desperate for material. I can not believe your cast has not addressed
the message that is perceived by viewers. I have watched
the show since it first began. I am afraid I may be
    changing the dial.
Oh, yeah, Katie, kick Brad out he is too stupid for you.
Any man that keeps "hanging" with Janet needs brain surgery.
Your show has always addressed current social concerns and had class, even with the proverbal romp in the hay. This "relationship' between first cousins however is way off base. I am afraid I am going to change the channel.
  • It's come a long way, baby. Now it just needs to find its way back.

Can someone please explain why the writers thought it was OK to make 2 first cousins become love intrests. That's ridiculous. Besides that gross display, there so many other missteps that this show has taken. I haven't watched it regularly in over 2 years since Gus used to be a FBI agent and was investigating Harley. To me, that was the last plausible storyline on the show. Why is it that Josh is dating Reva's sister? And is it true that Alan Spaulding killed Phillip? Why? So many things on this show make no sense-so I gave up on it very recently all together.
  • This show was actually good a few years ago.

It started getting weird, and went downhill ever since. Lets see....Reva has driven off a bridge, which could be realistic, but then she turns up years later, having already been a Princess of a small island, then somehow she goes from that to being Amish? OK. Then all of a sudden, she's home to find out that her husband missed her so badly that he had her cloned. Then the clone decided she wanted to be the original, and kidnapped Reva. Um, yeah. I finally called it quits when they decided that Reva could jump into pictures, or whatever it was she could do. Then she's psychic, then she's got a talk show. I don't know. It kept getting more far-fetched by the minute. And has every woman in town flipped out and kidnapped a small army of people at some point? Holly took all the kids, Beth got Gus and Alan (YEAH RIGHT). Olivia went from being the almost-princess of san cristobal to pretty much a prostitute in Springfield. And is San Cristobal as close as the next town? I know for a while there, half the residents of Springfield would take off for San Cristobal at the drop of a hat. Cross Creek must be on the way, b/c they spend a lot of time there too. That reminds me something else about the island. Did they bring half the people there back with them? Richard, Edmund, Olivia, didn't they bring some of the royal staff or whatever back too? Just too strange.
  • Over the top with the Josh and Cassie storyline

I have been watching guiding Light for more years than I care to admit. My friends and I have \"soap\" parties, we have tivo night, where we watch several episodes and have a discussion. Lots of fun!! HOWERVER, your new story line with Josh and Cassie has put an end to all of us watching at all. Noone enjoys this, this time you have gone over the line of acceptable fiction. We will keep checking to see if and when we can return to our show, we miss it and our \"friends\". Hope this apalling new twist is over soon.

    Thank You for your time,
    Sue Lindeborn
  • Oldest soap on daytime focussing on the residents of Springfield and the people that work at Cedars hospital

Without Grant Aleksander why bother????? He was why I started watching the show.... I remember flipping channels back in 83 and seeing this absolutely gorgeous man.... My son's middle name is Phillip....Can you guess why? But not only have they gotten rid of Grant but now Jerry Ver Dorn and Marj Dusay.... I don't even recognize half the cast anymore. There used to be a focus . I dont think there is anymore!
  • Guiding Light used to be a show I loved. Bad writing has limited its character development and its storylines. For years the drama wasn't self contained in each episode, it developed over time because of compelling stories and great characters. Now

What is wrong with the writers on this show? Are they completely incapable of writing a scene with more than one character? The writing is the poorest it has been in about seven years. Must suck that Grant Alexsander didn\'t take it too well that he was let go. Now you have a huge problem. Why even hint that he was still alive if you didn\'t have him committed to come back because no one will ever be able to play that role again, it is his.

If I remember correctly, right after Michele got out of the hospital - after the explosion that Danny had set, before her affair with Tony - Michele had said she was \"late\" but it was never brought up again. Now she is back, pregnant, and has no idea who the father is - isn\'t this a serious plot mistake.

I also have no idea how Cassie could become \"friends\" with Dinah (Gina Togninni is one of the few bright spots on this show - her and Tom Pelphrey.) - This is the woman who killed R.J.\'s father in an attempt to kill her. Don\'t the writers ever think about that? Why don\'t they ever write some real dramatic scenes between these women that deal with that very real fact. Its because they are lightweights and afraid to write something true.

But the worst writing of all surrounds the character of Tammy Lane Winslow. This must be the single dumbest citizen of Springfield ever. How can the writers keep up this story about two first cousins completely in love with each other. It is illegal in most states for first cousins to shack up together. This is a blood relative. This is why it was so evil what he was doing to her. If you remember, Sandy was in love with Marah at one point, and he was just pretending to be Jonathon, and he never acted on that passion (even though she felt it as well)because it would be seen as sleeping with his half-sister. Why is it OK for Tam-Tam to sleep with the real cousin? Tammy\'s scenes lack any credibility or passion whatsoever. She is the anti-Harley, someone who just accepts her torments and believes whatever anyone tells her. Why didn\'t the writers have the courage to highlight the fact that it was Jonathon who supplied Lizzie Spaulding with the drugs she used to drug Tammy\'s boyfriend the night they were supposed to be together? Isn\'t that even more insight into the evil that is Jonathon? How could she be attracted to him - it makes no sense.

One other thing --- why is Edmund the badguy at all for what is happening behind Cassie\'s back. She deserves some of it doesn\'t she? She was basically having an affair with Jeffrey (the man who at one point was in love with her niece and actually slept with her niece) right under Edmund\'s nose. Her character is, for the most part, a slut. She\'ll sleep with whoever is available. No wonder her daughter is such an imbecile. Cassie just lets whatever man is around her take care of her. She is incapable of being on her own and that sort of makes her pathetic. (I mean come on - how could she fall in love with a man who locked her in a tower and several times came close to causing her and his brother\'s death.) A story should have continuity and be somewhat believable to its dedicated viewers, Guiding Light is no longer that show.

Grant Alexander was very smart for turning down Proctor and Gamble\'s pittance offering to come back as Philip. This show is going off the cliff fast.
  • A show with limitless potential and an illustrious history goes down the drain.

Guiding Light is a show with limitless potential that is simply not being realized by current headwriter David Kreizman. The stories are illogical, mindnumbing, cliche, and uninspired. The show lacks heart, it lacks soul. The characters that represent the core of the show are disrespected and disregarded, while the show remains populated by ill-defined and destroyed characters. Instead of what should be a case study of the human condition, the show has stooped to shock-driven slop. The LIGHT has faded from view.
  • Out with the new an In with the old.........PLEASE

I have been watching GL faithfully for 28 years. Reva and I were in labor at the exact same time 22 years ago. She had Mara and I had Jamie. I tape the show daily and look forward to spending part of the evening with my friends, until lately. The story line is not good, but that happens. What bothers me the most is the writing and the photography. The show lacks continuity and is difficult to follow. This outdoor filming and all the filming looks very unprofessional and ameteurish. The scenes jump around and it makes no sense. Please fix it so I can continue to enjoy. B`hamsuzq
  • I used to love this show.

It's unfortunate that the cast and the viewers of
Guiding Light have had to put up with so much upheaval. Cast members taken off contract not based
on storylines but on the almighty dollar. They
are even making them move from their current studio
to an older one just to save a buck.
With all the changes they do not have a guarantee
that the show will carrying on past 2006.
Shame on the bean counters. Long time viewers
are fighting mad about the changes not because
they want to be difficult but because they love
    their show.
  • They have surely lost their way...

I have loved Guiding Light since I was a young girl...I watched with my grandmother...but they have lost their way. They have completely disregarded all Guiding Light history, made ridiculous choices for couples (Marina and Alan Michael???--He's old enough to be her father, but then again...there's the history...) and I can't stand Cassie, let alone Cassie and makes my skin crawl. But worst of all is the Daisy screw-up. Daisy is actually the correct age...but unfortunately, they SORAS'ed Marina, who was born after her, as was Lizzie. The writers have ruined this show by blowing off all history. The only reason I am still even thinking about watching is I hope that they will redeem Reva, and have her kick Cassie's butt.
  • Best Years are Far Gone

This Show was best from 1992-2000. This show has way to many characters now, to many story lines. My favorite storyline of all time was The Annie-Reva-Joshua Storyline, Annie was one crazy Bitch, I don\'t think they respect reva anymore she gets all the crap storylines, she belongs with joshua she is old enough to stop being a slut now...
  • Good

I like this show alot cause it gives me everything i want to see its very good and something i like to watch this show has good and bad point about it but its ultimatly good entertainment for me and my friends and family it i think its a good show with informative and insightful situations that people can relate to in there own way , This is a show that i caould watch without flipping the station to find what else is on , i recommend anyone to atleast watch it once to see if they like it like i do
  • Normally I would go, "TURN OFF THAT LIGHT!" but...

...there's something about this light that's...special. It isn't a crappy teenage drama, it isn't a boring teen show like SWAC, it's been on for many graceful years, and it excited me when I saw bits and pieces of it while channel surfing. I'm wondering how it kept so many fans and still had somewhat good of a following, made it to the Guinness Book, and STILL is a household name after all these years on air. Trust me, at first glance I wanted to extinguish it, but after seeing a few episodes, I love it. Please, if you're sick of the teen drama stuff, watch Guiding Light instead...
  • on the off chance i ever meet my angel reva

hi I heard kim likes to hear from her fans; so ill give this a shot. hi angel reva shane. I have loved u since I was a kid growing up watching gl. I was going threw a lot of the same types of things as daisy was. and still struggling with them, but seeing it played out on tv has helped me a lot. when daisy had the abortion I was going threw similar stuff and drew strength from her and reva. it really gave me strength to see reva fighting for her kid. I really wish I could meet the imfamous reva shane. it is like my bucket list dream. reva really is breathtakingly talented. and I attest my guardian angel. I am a forever fan of kims. she was also great as mavis on d women. but it is reva that I fall in love with and dream of meeting. someday... the daisy stories helped me get over s o much in my life. I wish reva knew how much I value and adore her and how amazing I think she is. I see so much of me in daisy. it is like her character is telling my story. Reagan from Canada.

  • Adapting to change is hard, but fans must get over their most recent hang ups about this history-making show if it is to go on.

I have been a fan of "Guiding Light" since it was called "THE Guiding Light". I even found myself laughing a few weeks ago when writers managed to throw that change into the script as a joke between Gus and Harley when talking about "Light of Love which used to be THE Light of Love". I remember watching the show every afternoon with my grandmother after school. While other students were watching cartoons, I sat captivated with my grandmother watching the daily goings on of the residents of Springfield.

While I'm just as upset about the recent cast changes and cutbacks as any other fan, my loyalty to this show remains the same. I think any fan who has managed to stay with the show after Reva was cloned can get past this most recent batch of bad and/or tiresome storylines that we've been given.

Instead of writing the show off for one or two characters who may be leaving or who have left already, try to take hope in the fact that the writers will come up with ingenous ways to use the remaining cast. It's up to fans to keep the light shining.
  • The Guiding Light has been a really smart show for a number of years but it seems something has happened to the writing. Bring back the great storylines.

For a number of years I thought as far as Daytime Dramas (Soaps) goes, this was one of the best. I am beginning to re-think this position. The whole Josh/Cassie thing has been a real unwelcome storyline for me. I know people are not perfect but really... what woman learns that her sister and brother in-law are apart due to her sister's cancer and continues a love affair with him even though she knows the truth. What woman really thinks she is entitled to her sister's husband? What husband would be so callous once he knew the truth? Pathetic storyline.
  • "Will Be Missed"

Yeah well this show will end on Friday September 18, 2009 and it will be missed by me and other fans it shouldn't be taken off the air they should keep it on and just change a few things but anyway I think this show is great alot better than Y&R + B&B right now because there kind of dumb at this moment in time. Unlike those two shows I really liked all the characters except for Harley but she left a year ago. Loved this little quote they did to: "There is a destiny that makes us brothers
None goes it's way alone And all that we send into the light of others Comes back into our own."
    Just had to add that
  • This daytime programme has stood the test of time, but one has to wonder if time has really run out for this programme or IF this programme can rise from the ashes that recent directors/producers/writers have taken it down to?

I have watched this programme since since 1967, when I remember that it was still in black/white. Through the years I have watched unbelievable storyline come & go but I NEVER thought I would see the end of this programme. I was stunned to see that they were turning off the light for good and had to wonder if it was because of all the changes in the recent yrs. I was not, and still am not, a fan of the way the programme shooting was changed. I thought, and apparently ALOT of fans agreed with me, that it wasn't beneficial to the show. Then some of the solid staples of the show that left (ALOT of rumours were that they didn't like the changes either), yet this had happened before, but never when the show was already bleeding. This led to even lower ratings, and one would think that if the show wasn't doing well with ratings that some of the changes that had been implemented would be rethought, yet this wasn't the case. The powers that be (Ellen Wheeler and David Kreizman) did not listen to their fans, which honestly boggles ones' mind. It seemed to me that those in charge of keeping this show on the air and successful weren't interested in this any longer. Ellen Wheeler made the choice to "change" not only the setting look but major characters and focus on a younger cast. Once again she did not listen to the shows fans. I can not tell you how many message boards I visited during this time of "change" and the message was the same... THEY DIDN'T LIKE IT, yet Wheeler and head writer David Kreizman DIDN'T listen to their public. They stayed the course of the changes to the show (i.e, how it was shot as well as the storylines that were just "out there"), and even though they knew it was killing Irna Phillips lifes' work, they went ahead with "their" vision. I am very sad and angry that a staple of my life will be no more come September. This programme took me through my childhood illnesses, college exams, raising my four sons and everything else in between.
  • I started watching guiding light in 1983, the year that I graduated High School. I really liked the show and was hoping that they would bring some of the characters back from the 80's.

I like some of the story lines. I am hoping that they get Josh & Reva back together for good this time. I like Bill & Lizzy together. It would be nice if they brought back some of the cast from the 80's, such as Annabelle. I loved the reporter series when Fletcher was on the show. He was always going to an island in a foreign country to do some type of investigative reporting. I think that they should bring Shayne & Maura back to the show. I liked Maura with Jeffrey. Whatever happened to Dr. Noah Drake, I loved him. Great story; however, it could be enhanced.
  • Okay, so you have decided to replace about at least considering a refreshing replacement....

While I am a huge Guiding Light fan, I am afraid they are in fact going to move the show. My biggest fear - another game show, ugh, or worse yet another JUDGE show (zzzz). Give the Daytime viewer a little credit. Really, how about thinking outside of the box..... CBS and P&G should look at replacing it with Kim's Closet - a new, refreshing lifestyle and makeover show. They are saying the host Kimberly is going to do for fashion what Rachel Ray has done for food - make it fun. Finally, a fun, relatable daytime lifestyle show... www.KimsCloset.TV

I love guiding light and I hope that the show is renewed. It is one of my faviortes. A must see! I hope that someone picks up the show sometime in the future or soon. I am so glad that did a section on GL because I've always wanted a place that I could go and look up old episodes and read about them. A new fan of GL 23 Years Old
  • Change The Writing... Good Call

I like the writing style the show has now undertaken. The single character episodes make me want to watch more. Yes, it does still involve every character it can, but this is a much better format than the constant three-part episode writing of every other soap opera out there. I think this has potential in the long run to bring people in from the cold that is the current state of daytime drama, and give them something they're used to.
  • They have taken a great story line and just totally made it last too long. It is to the point that I am loosing interest and getting tired of it.

I am sure that I am not the only person getting tired of this Reva situation. First of all, I love Reva. But this is completely crazy for this situation to go on as long as it has. Even for her character to have let it go on this long is crazy. The writers have taken a good story and made it completely unbelievable and it sickens me to see what they are letting happen. If it was not for the situation with Lizzie I do not even know if I would be watching right now. I am Tired of Ava...she will be found out to be a twit...Cassie is tacky...Dinah needs to stand up to Jeffery and stop cowing down..So in a nut shell. They really need to do something to bring some life back into the show. But enough already with Reva and Josh. Stop playing games with something so emotional as cancer and affairs.....
  • Needs to keep faith with it's history.

I have watched and loved the light since age 3 in 59 at my mom's side.
I was happy to see the recent appearance of Rev. Rutledge-a decendant of the early lead character.Bring back the Baur family, front and center.Renew your rich heritage i say.
Stop repeating storylines so often, with differant characters.I still love the light.
  • The zeal of the writers and sponsors for the young, audience spells the death knell for GL. I have enjoyed you since watching with my Grandmother during the 50's on into the 80's with my own children. Oh I wished to share you with my grandchildren.

I am deeply disappointed that CBS is pulling GL. I have watched during good writing and bad for just over 50 years. I was watching it devotedly in the late 60's,70's, and early 80's losing interest when the younger (I was only 20) audiences were sought. My children have continued to watch (they're in their late 20's and 30's) and have the same complaint I had then, story lines were deleting the older, well loved/hated characters and very rarely looked back into the old stories for historical data (who was barren and miraculously gives birth etc.) The actors in most cases were excellent, the writing suffered greatly and thus killed GL. Killing Alan and sending Josh off are just two examples.
  • Are they available anywhere?

recently put the first 25 episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful on their website and I am enjoying it VERY much. It makes me wonder if there is anywhere that makes the rest of the series available? Also I would love to see The Guiding Light, As the World Turns, and the original episodes of The Young and the Restless. If the networks had any smarts, now that they have cancelled nearly all the soaps they should release all of them on DVD. I think for those of us that grew up with them, they could make a killing! I would certainly be willing to buy them! As far as I know, Dark Shadows is doing well on DVD so why not some of the "normal" soaps?
  • Please don't cancel this show!!!! It is the best SOAP on TV!! How could this happen???? It has to be them changing the time it's on...

Please don't cancel this show!!!! It is the best SOAP on TV!! How could this happen???? It has to be them changing the time it's on... Where I live it's only on at 9am alot of people can't watch if it was still running at 3pm maybe the rating would be higher. My husband recently became addicted. I have watched for 31 years. I am seriosly disturbed by this!!!! Please there has to be something the fans can do!!!!

Realistic story lines, Love the outside scenes in Peapack , NJ.... The show is great, the cast!! They just brought back Grant Alexander!!! This sucks....If they brought back Jonathon and Sarah I am sure ratings would go up...cmon there has to be something that can be done????

    Guiding Light Fan for Life!!!

  • What's with all the cast changes?

What\'s with all the changing of stars? I will never get use to the new Cassie, or even Lizzie. Bring back Danny without Michelle. Put Buzz with Olivia. Eva I can\'t stand.
The story line with Reva is great, it\'s a real tear jerker. But, how can the show even think of putting Josh with Cassie? She dosn\'t have the moral of a alley cat. Give Billy a love interest, he\'s just a big Teddy bear. Put Blake with Jeffery, Let them find out that Ross is realy alive and come back, and have Blake torned between both of them.
Just a few of my thoughts.
