It began in 1945, at the end of the Pacific War. Alien Invaders filled the Earth's skies, and mankind was forced to confront an unprecendented threat. For the first time in human history, people of all cultures came together under one banner. This war has now been raging for over fifty years. Countless lives have been lost, and the Japanese military is now forced to rely on young people such as Atsushi Hayami and his high school class, also known as Unit 5121. This new generation fearlessly struggles on with the aid of the HWT humanoid combat machines and the devastating PBE bomb.
Gunparade March is based off the Sony Playstation 2 video game.moreless
Gunparade March is a great anime. A war anime that concentrates more on the people than the war. Where many other war like anime only concern them self's with the big giant battles Gunpararde March shows a different view. Show teenagers are effected being drafted into a war and how it effects them. There aren't that many battles in the anime, but the one they do show have a big effect on the characters. I would recommend anyone to see this series. The only thing that kept it from getting a 10 was that it's only 12 episodes. I wish they had taken it to 24 or 26, I think the creators had enough story to do that.moreless
Another story of how strong is the human will to survive under the harshest conditions. However, this story focuses on the lives of the 5121st brigade, and their fight for humanitymoreless
I happen to chance upon this title during one of my raids of the anime store in town. Overall the series is quite okay, I would say. The graphics isn't particularly exciting, and the soundtracks aren't too shabby. The mecha's design isn't as streamlined as their later brethren. It seemed so bulky. However, one must take into account that the series was produced oh so long ago. Imagine by the year 1999 we have mechas!!! How cool would that be? But the main point of the story isn't about mechas. It's more about how the hatred and conflicts in the human heart manifests itself in the invading aliens. And also of the purity of a teenage love. From time to time one gets sentimental from watching this kind of anime, it certainly bring back fond memories of my teenage years...moreless
Gunparade March is an entertaining show that for the most part follows the main charachters Hayami and Shibamura as they attempt to form some sort of relationship. The story is set in war torn Japan fighting an alien invasion.moreless
While this show won't break any new ground, it is a nice piece that can be appreciated on quite a few levels.
As a romance story, between Hayami and Shibamura, while its not exactly believable, it is both amusing and heartfelt.
Theres a fairly interesting view of a world thats sort of Evangelionesque or maybe even Starship Troopers. Highschool age students (as per usual for an anime), going to school that acts as a school, barracks, maintenance, and staging point for a war against an enemy that feeds off the fears of the populace. The voice acting is just ok, however it doesn't seem all that bad when considering that its a first time go for the majority of the cast members. The animation is just average, but gets the job done, however during combat sequences the same shots are used over and over again from episode to episode, luckily the combat is not really the focal point for the series nor does it take up all that much time. More to the point its not fighting for fightings sake, its just used to push along some other part of the plot, like the charachters faith, or how they deal with death etc. Music is .. repetitive and annoying, I try not to think about it much... Its certainly not a groundbreaking series, but for the price (like 25$s for the full series) its a good bargin, and entertaining.moreless
