What a fine performance by James Nusser as Louie Pheeters. Usually we just see Louie as the town drunk that amuses everyone. Here he gives a fine performance showing the dangers of being an alcoholic. First by being tricked out of his watch (given to him by his father) simply because of his need for booze. Then by his inability to remember anything that happened, including losing his watch to his struggle to comprehend all that is happening around him.

We also see the lengths a family to protect their own instead of doing what's right. Thankfully in the end they do what is right. Festus again proves what a "softie" he is by letting Louie out of jail to try and find out for himself if he really did what he was accused of thereby forcing the family to confront themselves about their own morality.moreless
