Sam pours a draft beer with about four inches of foam. He sets it on the bar. The camera angle switches, and Matt immediately picks up the beer with a perfect half inch head. This isn't the first time. It happened a lot in the old black & whites.
This is quite nitpicky, but when Festus says, "Hey, Matthew," in the Long Branch as Matt comes in, the timing seems off. It seems like Festus said it too early.
The perfume the girl is wearing, La Belle Dame, is an oblique literary reference to the poem by Keats titled La Belle Dame Sans Merci which is about a knight who has been poisoned by his lover. The reference is eerily appropriate for the girl wearing it.
This is one of the few episodes which features an actual historical figure. The show generally avoided the use of such people in its plots, although references were sometimes made in passing.
Matt is supposed to have a badly bruised arm, and Doc tells him he'll have very little use of it until it heals. Yet, except for once in a while when he grabs it in pain, he is shown using that arm freely, even holding things in the hand he says he can't close all the way.
This is really nitpicky, but notice when Matt sits down at the Long Branch to first talk to Anderson...the table tilts up a bit!
In the cast list above it is indicated that Hal Needham plays the character Charlie, but neither the actor or the character is listed in the credits.
When Matt is checking the register at the Dodge House, the camera shows a close up of the register. The dates in the one column are 6/30, 6/31, and 7/1. The goof is that June (the 6th month) only has 30 days - the date of 6/31 doesn't exist!
When the "old man" (who doesn't look all that old) first rips Dillon's sleeve to tend to the gunshot wound, look closely as the scene fades. I can't see an wound...only blood on the sleeve!
When Tony is unexpectedly hanged by Joe, his hands aren't tied together. Couldn't he have used his hands to undo the noose? Or, at least, delay his death for a while?
During the scene in which the Old Man is hanged, notice the banner in the background that says "Hayes City." Hays City, Kansas has no "E" in it!
It looks to me that Cyrus Degler was using a long, thick whip on Quint. Wouldn't a whip to the face leave SOME sort of mark or scar? Later in the show we see that Quint is completely healed.
