This episode gave two nods to the late, great "Homicide: Life on the Street": summoned to the scene of a murder, Washington promptly tells a captain, "I'm not working homicide anymore", a sly allusion to Braugher's Emmy winning portrayal of Frank Pembleton; and Mike and Marcellus have a conversation in the car about racism, a thinly veiled reference to the famous Pembleton-Bayless car conversations, as well as a reference to "Colors", the "Homicide" episode about racism which guest starred David Morse.
The Bodine Center for Cancer treatment was made up to look like Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for this episode.
