I wasn't expecting much from this show, but it delivered a descent storyline that definately deserved more than 12 episodes.

Well, to be honest, I didn't really think this show would that good. I actually heard about it when my friend went cleaning out his closet and found the old manga book (first volume). When I was reading it, I thought it had a cheesy storyline, but the book was funny and mildly interesting. My friend said they made a series on T.V. about it, the anime was much better he told me. Of course, being a curious person, I went on to youtube and found within minutes. The storyline started pretty much the same as the book, but I found it actually entertaining because it seemed to link all of the story together (not that I didn't like the manga, it's just that, sometimes the books are little harder to fallow or just seem like bits and peices of a storyline glued out of order, the anime strings everything back up to me). Definatley different from the .hack//SIGN series (which I watched after this one), it gives us a good story that focuses on comedy, as well as adequitley n mystery and suspense. A lot of people thought SIGN was better just because it had a dark and suspensful mood to it, but I honestly found that to be the most annoying part of that series. I literally had to force myself to finish the first five episodes of SIGN, there was nothing that really caught me into the plot and if it wasn't for .hack//LOTTB, I probably wouldn't have cared to finish the rest of SIGN (LOTTB was good so I bared through the beginning). What was great about this series is that the comical athmosphere and the plot (which actually cuts to the chase within a few episodes unlike SIGN) kept me willing to watch through. Though there wasn't as much mystery or suspense as SIGN, there was a good amount of it to keep your interest. I honestly thought the writers were good at balancing this with the pure fun and goofiness of the show. There are some faults though, in some parts, the story starts to drag. Mostly in episodes 7 and 8, which for a series with only 12 episodes, that's a big percentage. Luckily it's no where near as bad as SIGN's plot drag (which starts to drag 10 minutes into the pilot and keeps dragging for many more episodes). Also, with Shugo and Rena being brother and sister, the many scenes that had them interacting with eachother were a little unsettling (mostly by how many of these scenes there were, and if you've seen the anime, I'm sure you know what I mean). The voice acting was pretty good, but borderlines annoying in some scenes where the characters constantly call out each other names, especially with Rena and Shogu. All in all though, the show was great. The problems I found were small, and didn't really affect me that much. The show was funny, has plot that gets interesting within a few episodes, balances well with the mystery and suspense aspect of the series, and was really entertaining. I fully recommend this series to any anime fan, or anybody who read the manga (if you liked the manga, trust me, you'll like the anime, in my opinion, it's better). The biggest problem I had though was that it was 12 EPSISODES LONG!!! That's all?!! The show was great, and deserved to have least a descently lenghted season. SIGN got 29 episodes, WHY ONLY 12?!! Well, I guess you can't change that, especially when it was over four years ago. Anyways, watch it, it's definatley worth your time (it's only like 5 hours or so of your time to)
All in all though, the show was great, and I didn't watching it until I reached the end.moreless
