AIRED:
The story of an English officer wounded by Irish patriots during the closing days of the Irish Rebellion (1916-1921) whose recuperation takes place in a hospital in which the Daughters of Charity, a nursing order, are in charge, Sister Brigid Mary, a girl whose desperate struggle to understand God's will and to retain her faith, are mirrored in the agnostic young officer.

        "You see," Dirk Bogarde explains, "1 don't wear makeup, not in the movies and not on television. I look like a horse on a carousel with makeup so I just go without. Well, you know that the slightest suspicion of heaithy rounded cheeks can be turned into a moon face by a camera. So I liar* to make certain that it would be believable when I played the role of someone sick."
