      • In his prime as a playwright George Bernard Shaw was sometimes considered ahead of his time. These many years later, when his work is viewed with interest by millions at home, he is most timely. Some of the social problems he pondered appear to be resolved, but the majority are not.

Shaw, in the words of St. John Ervine, hated "hypocrisy and pretentious respectability and irrational social cleavages and stupefying poverty and every kind of organized priestcraft, whether of the law or the church or of medicine or of politics." His hatred of shiboleths pours from his plays in wry laughter.
