Editor Horace Greeley's heroic defense of the defeated Jefferson Davis is dramatized. Greeley, as editor of the New York Tribune had been a leader in the fight against the Confederacy, but when Jefferson Davis was jailed Greeley crusaded for his release. Even when Davis offered to do so voluntarily, Greeley refused to abandon his battle, both for personal justice for Davis and the fair treatment of the South which would reunite the country.moreless
