Episode Summary

EDIT
A driver picks up a woman hitch-hiker and takes her to a quiet little place he keeps for the occasional sex attack - but the man gets a surprise of his own when his heart is cut out with a sharp hook. This murder looks very like another recent killing. Then the detective on the case, Inspector Clifford, hears on the radio about a book by local writer Natalie, which tells the story of a seventeenth-century countess with a string of lovers who all ended up dead. The countess kept an eagle which tore out her husband's heart, after he locked her up. Clifford calls on Natalie, and his suspicion soon falls on Mrs Henska, an elderly european who is descended from the count. The police start watching Mrs Henska's nephew, Tadek, who works as a female impersonator. Then another man dies, a jogger who ran the wrong way. Clifford is falling for Natalie, but he is also beginning to suspect her of being a mad serial killer...

      • Mrs Henska: It was not until after her death that they found the bodies. One hundred and seven of them. Would you like some more tea?

    • NOTES (3)

      • Pierce Brosnan's part in Carpathian Eagle is described in some cast lists as "Jogger" - although it was a small part, he did at least get killed in a blood bath. Pierce went on to play James Bond.

      • The locations for Carpathian Eagle include the parish church of Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, Chesham Park, Hampden House, and the High Street, Old Amersham.

      • Suzanne Danielle later summed up her role in Carpathian Eagle:

"I did a film for the Hammer House of Horrors with Anthony Valentine, in which I played four or five different characters each with different wigs. I was a novelist who gets dressed up in all these different costumes and then goes out and cuts men's hearts out."
