EDIT
Boss is a Mom!
AIRED:
When Maxwell and Oxnard are out walking in the park, they find Boss fishing. This is confusing. They know that Boss likes fishing, but it's the middle of winter and they didn't think he was that dedicated. When Hamtaro shows up at the clubhouse that day, they tell him about it. Hamtaro is just as surprised as they are. They wonder if maybe he isn't changing is diet or something. Bijou says that she was out walking when she saw Boss. She asked him if he wanted to walk with her. Boss said that he couldn't, he had something important to do. Everyone agrees that Boss turning down a walk with Bijou is very odd. So the ham-hams decide to find out what Boss is up to. They eventually find him in a secluded area tending to a kitten. They're all shocked and try to pull him away, thinking that he's in danger. But Boss insists that they send him back in. He explains what happened. He was out walking one day with some swiss cheese. The kitten came up to him, begging for some and at first he was scared. He offered the kitten a little cheese to get it to go away and then saw that it had injured its paw. Seeing that it looked like the kitten hadn't eaten in quite a while, he decided to give it all the cheese. He's been tending to it ever since, catching for fish for it and such. Boss says the kitten seems to think he's its Mom and that cats normally give him the creeps, but this kitten is like family. While this is happening, Laura and Kana are at school. It just so happens that they're talking with the kitten's owner. She explains that what happened was that she just opened the door for a split second and the kitten got out. It happened faster than she could stop it. Laura recalls the time she lost Hamtaro. Kana says she doesn't know what she'd do if Oxnard ever went missing. To help Boss, the ham-hams decide to catch fish for the kitten. However, the ham-hams find that they have trouble relating to the kitten. When it even so much as mews, they run away in fear. Boss doesn't understand what's gotten into them. He reminds them of the time that they all helped Brandy with the dogsled race. Still, the ham-hams think it's different. Hamtaro says that if the kitten starts to get a little frisky, they should tiptoe out the door. Oxnard calls what they're doing "extreme." Boss gets really mad, saying that they all have families and have no idea what it's like to be alone. He sends them out, very disappointed with them. The ham-hams talk and decide that Boss has a point. The kitten really is like family to him. Otherwise, he only has Snoozer to talk to when the rest of the ham-hams aren't around and Snoozer isn't exactly the talkative sort. They go back and help Boss, who's happy to tears that they returned. The ham-hams help Boss to bandage the kitten's leg and otherwise take care of it. That evening, Laura is surprised to find that Hamtaro seems very tired. She talks about the girl in her class who lost the kitten. Hamtaro immediately makes the connection that the kitten Laura's talking about is the one that Boss has been taking care of. The next day, Hamtaro tells Boss about the kitten's owner. Boss, however, doesn't want to give the kitten up. He says that if the owner was careless enough to let the kitten get loose, then the kitten shouldn't have to go back. The ham-hams get irritated with Boss, saying that Boss claims he knows what it's like to be alone, but he doesn't understand the feelings of the kitten's owner. Meanwhile, as they're arguing with him, Oxnard has been left alone in the clubhouse to watch over the kitten. The kitten escapes the clubhouse and poor Oxnard is unable to stop it. At about the same time, a boy is in the park walking his dog. The dog, seeing the kitten, breaks loose and chases after it. While the ham-hams are busy berating Boss about not returning the kitten, Boss hears it crying out. He goes after it and ends up confronting the dog. Boss, however, nearly ends up becoming dog bait himself, until the kitten jumps down from the tree it was hiding in and gives the dog a few good swats. The dog just about turns its attention back to the cat, but the dog's owner finally arrives and stops it. The kitten's owner also shows up at that time, with Kana and Laura. She reclaims the kitten. Boss is sad to see the kitten go, but is glad to have looked after it. That evening, Laura reflects on the day's events. She's glad the kitten is back with its owner, but wonders about the bandage on its leg. She figures that someone must have been looking after it, but it escaped from them.moreless
